The good news is that this isn't a "Dies the Fire" type event. (S. M. Stirling wrote a series about people surviving the sudden collapse of all high-energy tech, including guns and steam power!) Once the EMP source is gone, electricity will still work, and at that point it becomes a matter of rebuilding.I have and it's not fun . My wife would die in three days .
Unclean water , no preservitives = sickness and starvation. = Mass die off = more death .
Those that survive have a life expectancy of 25-35 .

A '50s pickup with a magneto ignition will run still. It'd be just my luck I'd be out on a deer run. Have to acquire a bike from somewhere and peddle my ass 100 miles home.
Most farmers still depend on petroleum, which is hard to deliver when the entire trucking fleet is immobilized by a nuclear EMP from space. Beasts of burden would be in high demand!Yes. I would survive. You guys know why. I depend on nobody to feed me and family and I'm already prepared if shit hits the fan.
long term survivablity would be tough unless you were in a community situation of like minded people. i'd definitely make sure to save the last round.I think most preppers are just deluding themselves. If things are really that bad, they won't survive as much as linger. If they aren't that bad society will rebound. Chances are, none of the shite they plan for will occur in their lifetimes.
But hey, everyone needs a hobby.
Will an EMP kill a points type distributor? I didn't think it would. I have my mid 90s, all mechanical, diesel truck, doesn't need any electrics to run. I bought it, partially, for this scenario. 4wd, solid axles, manual transmission, runs on just about any fuel oil.. I'll point it into the woods and wait. I'm trying to find a recoil starter, uses a ratchet to crank a big ass clock spring to start the truck, then I'll be 100% mechanical. With a little work I think I have room to mount a starter on both sides on the motor, one electric, one crank.A '50s pickup with a magneto ignition will run still.
