cloning; Is it worth it?

I cloned chilli peppers soon after they took off really good, also gooseberries I donate to the local school for cash, they were very easy ..like weed
.. cloning is very additive, esp. when you see the price of some plants, I suspect that the harder the bark the easier to clone as the cambian layer is thicker, my guess
currently growing yet more fucking hedges for my buddy wanting a descrete outdoor grow, and black currents I do every 2 years as they get the scale bug very easy..
I think black currents growing is bannd in the us as the same bug, scale infects local pine trees...??
badass setup there and yeh pine is a huge export ,one of the reasons pot(hemp) is illegal i think...and weed is not easy to clone n my personal opinion
but this is only my 3rd yr growing outd. and my first year trying to clone mj or anything for that matter and I've tried 3 times on an already flowering femalee and all attempts have failed
& mixing soils a fcking headache... but i did just successfully cloned something not long ago not sure of the name but i think its because i used cinnamon for rooting and i found its good for the mold

The down side to cloning in my experience is the older the clone, the slower it grows, and there's more trimming to do.
Since you can't clone autos I gave making fem seeds a try. It's fairly simple and cheap.
Over the summer I tried it on an amnesia auto and a chocolate skunk auto. Even though the Amnesia did get plenty of male flowers I got 0 seeds. I did get ~200 off the chocolate skunk.
Trying it now on a photo.
When I get fem seeds dialed in I'm going that route.....faster growth less trimming.
You can clone just about any strain with water and an air stone. Need a dome if low humidity.
?????

Tell that to my over 25 year old chem and my over 30 year old Blueberry..... They haven't ever "slowed down" in any growth....cloned at every flip.

In fact my old goat, antique strains will kick the pants off any of your Auto's.....That's just the old school strains..

I love to clone my girls. I take a few low branch cuttings cut at a 45 and use a razor blade to strip a thin layer of outer skin off on about 1/2 inch dip it in rooting hormone and stick it in a jiffy peat pellet cover with the cloning dome and in about 2 weeks I have roots. My success rate is about 90%. I have even cloned from a flowering plant with a success rate of about 60%

difficult to clone=poor cloning technique.

if clonex isnt doing it....you're doing it wrong.
begin with a healthy donor, clean new blade, clean cutting surface, clean air, controlled space
I use rusty scissors and used res water and that my friends is my secret lol. Honestly I really do use scissors and res water lately and all is great. You could root a pencil in the root riot cubes I think lol.

Honey ..house hold organic honey is the best ever 'clonex' also good for plant wounds, and cuts

build a clone bubblier, if like me you struggle with rapid rooter clones ,,imo
just started using honey I've been cutting buds off early and it helps with healing a lot i hate to cut em early but can't help myself.. it its all i can do to wait for em to dry
but I'm getting a pretty big fish tank tommoro for free I wonder if the fish will nibble at the roots if they hang down from the top..the self sustainable hydro systems with fish tanks r pretty badass i don't have a link but easy to find with google

yeh I've been mixing the soil myself this year and i think thats the reason none of em survived.. or i hope thats the reason
but I'm definitely not skimping on soil next year I've wasted a lot of time and potential harvest this year trying the DIY method
but fkc it. I guess i learned something

I miss my blueberry :(, nothing comes close :(. We planted fields of it back in the day and was gone in weeks.

gday me fellow greenians.
ok so ive had some pretty poor luck in germinating this year or getting seeds to raise post germination. sigh., im guessing bad seeds as i never normally have issues but to counter that, im looking to clone. first time. what is the general success rate of cloning straight in water? how does it effect the mother plant? does it decrease yeild by much, or will new nodes grow if done correctly increasing thy yeild?

I make a cut 45degree angle on a nice branch close to stem. chuck the end In water (tape around the cup if its see through and tape around the top or use a teatowel so the light doesn't reach into the water but the leaves get light) change water daily. is there any main point I am missing here?

my cat just urinated on my shoes so im going to piss on his face.

if after all this you still struggle

quit

and become the king of air layering

I think u should always take a clone of every plant in case u stumble across a hidden gem. Yes it's worth it because its free. plus you dont have to worry about sexing as others stated. I bought the cheap cloning powder from my local hardware store. It works great when used as directed. I also use water bottles like the ones you buy at the gas station... they stay so humid because of the skinny narrow neck. just make sure the cutting is at least a few inches long for best results either way.

I remember reading years ago about genetic drift in cannabis cloning, does it exist???? During my freelance mycology experiments in the late 90's, alternating food source agar medium, for the mycelium stock samples of the isolated pure strain, helped to maintain vigor.....
Any correlation to this known in plant genetics?

Man ...if you know of anyway of increasing the vitality of plants

DO SAY !!!!

change water daily.
Are you filling the water back to the top?
Granted this is purely anecdotal evidence but if I'm cloning in just water I like to let the water evaporate quite a bit. To the point where I'll refill it to where the water level was prior to changing it. Especially if you got a lot of white bumps going on.
I've had those bumps bust roots out and down into the water overnight. My theory is it chucks out roots cause the water level is lowering and whatnot.
Those long test tube shot glasses are perfect for water cloning btw. You can pack a lot of them in a small space and label em with a sharpie. Need to re label em? Black out the spot and then use a silver sharpie.

And yeah cloning is worth it for sure. Eventually you'll find some wacky pheno that really stands out above the rest. Then you'll kick yourself in the butt because you'll be stuck revegging it. Which isn't as bad as people say it is. But still you're looking at 2-3 weeks to get her up and kicking again nicely........then taking cuttings.......then rooting said cuttings.....then vegging said cuttings. So you're saving time in the long run. And time = money.
Building a small bubble cloner (tutorial's in the DIY section) is worth it's weight in gold. You're gimping/cheating yourself by not doing it.

so did this air layering, and worked
I have yet to try this method. I need to buckle down and experiment with it. It seems feasible as a way to chuck a mom outdoors and get cuttings from it vs carrying clones to a site. Eliminate some legal risk there you know?
There was a post in the old UB thread on it and someone had mentioned a dude using those plastic Easter eggs to house the medium. Just drill a hole through it where the egg snaps together for the stem. Open it to check for roots.
How's the rooting time on air layering? Or your best to worst results + average.

I like using willow. Take the newer yellow growth from a willow tree. About a cup or two. Put in a bowl or pot with distilled or spring water and lightly warm. No boiling. Let sit over night and strain. Keep in the fridge.

I make mine stronger for a concentrate.
