No if you actually pay attention we have always been very open about where our lights where and are now made. Being a small business we couldn't meet minimum order qtys to actually have our products made in the USA. Now though our boards are made in Michigan and we assemble our lights in an ISO certified factory in Tennessee. Unlike most we worked as hard as possible to start our business and then create jobs with it. Maybe our small contribution is nothing in the grand scheme of things but we are honestly trying to do the right thing. Those new employees at our manufacturer have insurance and profit sharing. The average end of the year bonus at this business is 15-30k. So go ahead stand on your soap box and tell us how you try to make the world a better place.

As you have admitted about labor is a commodity. Once you move middle class manufacturing jobs out of the country corporations can use the leverage of a healthy labor pool to pay workers less.. kinda take it or leave it buddy type attitude. Owning a service business for 20 yes I saw this attitude first hand. As I tried to adjust what I charged contractors for my service the process stagnated. On several occasions I was told by builders I'll pay you this amount for your drywall service and that's it. "I'll get the Mexicans to do it if you want at this price". If you don't believe that call any sub contractor outside of electricians or plumbers and ask them if they ran into this exact scenario.

I would agree with that but wages are stagnant in small business as well which aren''t publicly traded.

It still effects competition. Imagine cobs made here. Prices would increase. Also buying controls small businesses. Most I know who are retired don't spend like they did. I don't want anything. He seems to be saying that all his ills were due to illegal immigrants and yet I strongly suspect that there were just people willing to do the job for less than he was - maybe they were more "goal oriented" or just more efficient. He also seems to want the free market to be diverted in order to ensure him a middle class outcome despite there being those hungrier than he is. You would think that he would offer a service in which the drywall was done better than that of cheap labor but he might not have. If he did, he would have bid on jobs in which the quality mattered to the consumer rather than "goal oriented" ones who sought to get the job done at whatever cost even if it was of poor quality. Sounds to me that he really wanted market protection while railing against "big government".

No Mexicans could do the labor cheaper because they didn't provide workman's comp 11% of total labor and they definitely didn't have to pay taxes. So yes they could charge 20% less and have the same effective take home pay. Shape it any way you like but contractors took advantage of these people and I'm not in with that. I worked several legal Mexican crews. I couldn't hire illegal ones or else I would have to pay taxes on the money as I couldn't write it off.... You guys can stand back and speculate I lived it.
