GOP Senator Implies Those Who Aren’t Millionaires Waste Money On ‘Booze, Women’
That’s why the richest deserve a break on estate taxes, says Chuck Grassley.

In an astonishing defense of dropping “death taxes” for individual estates worth more than $5.5 million, GOP Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley implied that people not currently affected by that tax are “spending every darn penny ... on booze or women.”

“I think not having the estate tax recognizes the people that are investing — as opposed to those that are just spending every darn penny they have, whether it’s on booze or women or movies,” Grassley told the Des Moines Register in an interview published Saturday. Grassley, who serves on the Finance Committee, made the remark when asked about the Senate tax reform measure which would double the exemption for estates to $11 million for an individual and $22 million for a couple. Heirs would inherit the estates tax-free.

Grassley’s comment triggered a wave of criticism on social media. Many complained that the working class is, in fact, spending “every darn penny” on raising their kids, caring for elderly parents, health care and putting food on the table. One Twitter user complained that the GOP was turning America into a version of “The Hunger Games.”

is this guy from the 1940s? booze, women and movies?

so working class is not entitled to the value of their work? nice. but we're forced to have children we can't afford and no health insurance in which to raise those forced upon us? no living wages because 'booze women movies' are the devils playground?

I've worked since I was 14. I see lots of people rich and poor waste their life away on tv, video games rollitup and yes meth and heroin. It's human nature to take advantage of the system whether rich or poor. But we make choices. Nobody forces people to have children.

You need to be real dude. We need people to have kids.

Also in the next 20 years many of the jobs we know nowadays won't be around anymore.

So like it or lump it, we're either going to have to kill a shitload of people or we start a system of UBI.

Even the currently rich could lose it all to an advanced AI trading the market at a speed and precision humans can't imagine. It would also learn and improve its accuracy all the time, whether actively trading or just monitoring trade data so it will adapt exponentially faster than a human trader can.

Another reason I left Iowa, fucking Grassley has the brains of a confused farmer of bad ideas. Religion has warped his brain, stupid mf.
then there's this little mindset:

Sen. Orrin Hatch sparks backlash after claiming there's 'no money' for children’s health plan

https://www.aol.com/article/news/2017/12/03/sen-orrin-hatch-sparks-backlash-after-claiming-theres-no-money-for-childrens-health-plan/23295751/

9M kids is a lot to not have insurance..this is banana republic right in front of our eyes.

if they pass the tax cut bill, next stop..Social Security/Medicare. you see? they couldn't take it from there to pay for tax cut THIS year..something about 'keeping a promise' of not touching SS/MED. We're going to wake up and voila`! all of the sudden there is a DEFICIT!!!! never existed..just popped out of nowhere!!!

how WILL they balance the budget..so twicky president pedo..so twicky.

I definitely disagree with his analysis of where the majority are spending their money and find his response very ignorant. My kids healthcare deductibles are outrageous, through their employee sponsored insurance. the coast of dental treatment is ridiculous in this country. Eating healthy is also a budget killer, and the fact that almost everything you buy is virtually junk and requires replacement way to soon is making it very difficult for most families to make ends meet.

However, I do support the idea that inheritance should be tax free, even if it's billions of dollars. It's already been taxed once, it should not be double taxed because the same funds transferred to other family members.

When I think back on all the money I spent on drugs and women in my life, I have no regrets. Not sure there is a better investment.
just imagine how hard you would be crying if a democrat showed such contempt for hard working americans. you'd be having a fucking aneurysm.

No, and I don't see the connection? I just feel earned income should not be taxed twice. I know I want my assets to be freely distributed to my heirs, part of the reason I worked to accumulate them.

The heirs didn't earn that money, cry for somebody else. In any case, "no unfunded tax cuts" should be the mantra for anybody who says they are conservative. That tax cut for the heirs of wealthy people who didn't earn the money and now don't even have to pay taxes on it isn't really a tax cut at all. It's a delayed tax on people yet to be born.
