Best Rosin Press with a budget

Waddaya guys/gals think of the dh/rosinking 3x5 platen kit? I know i'll eventually upgrade to either twgf or low temp's cage setup. Just want to upgrade from my current tech. Dake b-10, balleigh and strongway are my 10- ton press choices.

I've been thinking. If I want to really go budget just grab the aforementioned plates at $250 and a hf 12 ton $80 w/coupon. bolt upgrades would bring the budget build in around $360.

Only thing is I KNOW I'm going to eventually get the 10 ton w/gauge. Gotta dial in each strains sweet spot on time and pressure. Caged plates = Consistent squishes from what I've read.

Decisions decisions.

No use for a gauge after a few squishing's!
Intrigueing.

I like the idea of knowing what each strains pressure point is in relation to it's final consistency. The sweet spot if you will. My flowers are all stored/cured the same way. They also maintain nearly the same level of humidty( using bovedas and a calibur). I get pretty consistent results with justa Irwin c clamp , 2" flat iron plates and thermometer. <<<< This tec is tedious for the amount I and a few friends of mine NOW consume lol.

@qb123, trust me , I'm not opposing anything you say. I guess I'm trying convince myself of which route I want to take for my upgrade.Upgrade now completely $750-$850 mainly all pre- fab'd parts(plates, controllers etc) + A nice 10 ton shop press. Or budget minded route for experimenting while leaving the door open for future upgrades. Cheaper press maybe a 6 ton with either the previousy mentioned $250 platen kit Or Diy my own Plates(even cheaper).

My buddy is insistant on grabbing a Nugsmasher. I told him for nearly the same price we could "somewhat" diy one and the only upgrades needed from then on are the plate sizes. Can't see myself pressing no more than 10-14 gs at a time, nor having the need to. Price isn't the issue on the build. I want quality+ consistent results with the least amount interference from or possible breakdown of my tools.
-my apologies for the essay.

pressure at the bag is what important and they say you only need up to 1000 psi at the bag ..
so depending on the size of bag you squish, that will dictate what ton press youll need in order to achieve 1000 psi at he bag.. a s they say that's all that's needed. I'm still learning though..

I've been reading this and googling different options.
It has me wondering if you would get bang for buck by doing the following.

Build your own press, buy a jack
Yes mine would be ugly but solid
And cheap.

Next, and here is where im not sure if it is worth the trouble.
Have a machine shop make the plates
Then purchase the electronics.

If you are even able to just purchase the electronics.

It seams that going this route you could build a beast for about the price of the entry level models.

I really want to do rosin but don't want
To go broke or spend the day pressing a gram at a time.

So my thought is i can build the frame out of junk. Almost free

Have the largest possible blocks machined And fit them for the electronics.

Purchase the electronics.

I have the time to waste chasing this all down.
Am I missing anything?

@charface , I've been mulling over this exact concept for a year! I like the way you put it tho. Although I won't be building a press. I like the 10 ton benchtop option .1. The small footpriny. 2. Portability. 3. If I ever decide to try drip tech, it'll be easier to flip the unit on it's side.

I have access to live hydraulic parts.
As in tractor loader cylinders, gear driven pumps, valves etc.
I could build a frankenstones monster.

Im mostly kidding but I wonder
If there is something to that.
You can adjust the pressures

I would love to see an lb of buds
Squished.

For that matter I wonder if anyone has retrofitted plates to a log splitter

Sorry for the off topic but a guy has to wonder

Just ran across this,
Looks like a decent rig for the money.
Sorry if it has been covered here already

Just saw dhgate/tuopoke has a cage plate kit also...Well I'll be damned, the Chinese are surely quick to jump on the "whatever is hot bandwagon.

Ok, I assembled my new Dake B10 press.....MAN, is this thing heavy! I had no idea how heavy even rather small pieces of steel can weigh. The parts don't look like they should weigh that much. I really had no idea these things were that heavy....so if anyone is considering a setup like I went for, then please be aware that they are heavy as fuuuuuck. ;) It's not the kind of thing that you "scoot" around when you need to use it. However, I got the 'bright' idea to buy a mover's dolly to set it on....hasn't arrived yet. But that should solve any moving issues that I had not considered ahead of time. I want something I can move easily, and then put aside when not in-use. I'll see how well the mover's dolly will facilitate that.

Got the rig set up and pressed a few grams of year-old buds. The taste is similar to the smell of the flower...kinda 'old' smelling! :) I had it vacuum sealed in violet glass Mason jars in the dark, for almost the entire year....but it just degraded to a golden color and has that....well, like I said, 'old' smell. Mother Tongue is the strain (a TGA/Jinxproof strain)...Wasn't really impressed with the flower, but I am frugal and didn't want to waste it. Pressing it was the best option. Now, if I want to dab it, then I can...Or, I can just dissolve the rosin into Everclear and make a tincture...Or, use the rosin to make edibles. It won't go to waste, anyway. I will say, though, it is a very nice, red-squinty-eyed kind of high.

The dolly is due to arrive tomorrow so I will test the rig for roll-ability soon.

Is that dake capable of doing an oz and if so what size plates would you recomend? 4x7?

@charface I'm not sure. I'd never even try to press that much at once so I'm not the guy to ask. I do know that the wider the plates, the less the pressure will be because of the larger surface area. So if you are planning on doing wide plates at high pressure, then you'll need a press -probably bigger than the Dake...but I'm not sure.

I know the Elysian Press can do a lot, but they are really expensive.
