Hey guys looking to build a led system so what im wondering
Is what kind of yeilds do you typically get ,in what size space, and what wattage of lights.
Pics would be nice
Thanks all
i've been doing a bit of research lately. seems like about 600-650 watts of LED (quality LED) is equivalent to 1000w of HPS for about a 4.5 x 4.5 footprint. LED is more efficient at putting out photons, and you lose less to heat (because you're running less wattage) and also you are directing the light much more efficiently than with an HPS, because HPS emits photons in all 360 degrees, 1/2 of which need to reflect to make it down towards the plants and lose energy (as heat) with each reflection.
i'm going to replace my 600 watt HPS hoods with LED this summer (hopefully) and replacing them with 500ish watts of LED, and i'm expecting an increase in yield for less power in the long run... seems like a good deal to me!
the cool thing about custom builds with LEDs is that you can design them to your space if you have an odd space to fill. By spreading the power over multiple COBs or boards, you can spread the coverage of your footprint with the light (custom placement) and have a more even distribution of light and less hot spots (like with HPS).
yields will depend on strain, but generally are at par with with 1000w HPS at the 650ish watt range, crush in GPW yields, and i've noticed that they seem to add density to the nugs. I gave a friend of mine a plant in my soil as he wanted to try an organic water only mix. His density was higher than mine with LED. He has platinum LEDs (which aren't even the best on the market).
Here's a fun little wrap up harvest results from growmou5 that i found very helpful in seeing the side by side (there are others on youtube as well)
