Viparspectra 600w distance?

Hey guys,

I recently bought viparspectra 600w LED light and I'm having some issues with it compared to my previous grow with 400w MH/HPS.

I prepared seeds like usual and they have been in the tent for a couple days now. Problem is they all look a bit more skinny then they did with my previous MH/HPS setup, and some of them are dropping like they are unable to hold themselves up.

The distance i started with was at around 39 - 40 inches (100 cm), i then moved them to around 35 inches (90 cm) so 10 cm closer. I did that yesterday and today another one is dropping and touching the dirt with its top.

What distance should i have the LED at in this early stage? The instructions say 100-120 cm for completely new plants, so should i try to move them further away, like maybe 45 inches or something?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

It's way too much light for fresh seedlings.

You could move it to top of tent or dim it if that's possible. I just experienced the same problem with a 100 true watt full spectrum LED veg light. I hate to say it but my young seedlings always respond best to MH or we even CFL/t5 if you can believe that. Mature plants tolerate it much better. I bet the underside of your leaves are turning purplish red too.

Peace :peace:

I use 100 watt for plants that size. 3 Vero 29's @33w for 100 total at around 15 inches or so above the plants. I just ran some QB boards at 200 watt for 3 panels total at 2' was too much light for my babies so back under the 100 w they went. After they get transplanted then the qb's will run around 150 watts until they get some roots size. Then I'll bump it up a bit until they are at 500w or so in 12sq ft. ymmv

Simple fix :

1. PUT BOTH SWITCHES TO ON .... LEAVE IT THAT WAY ALL THE WAY THRU.

2. 18" normal over canopy. 20" -24" over seedlings.

3. The stretch is from lack of light ... Hence both switches.

I have same rig ... I moved on to Quantums BUT I still have it cuz it grows fairly well for a blurple. I kept it cause I like the damn thing. Anyways running BLUE ONLY is hella weak .
Rig pulls actually around 278w not 600 - market hype.

Even though you may get better rigs later like I did ... This panel works pretty well for small grows.

Hard to tell but the one bent over may be damp off. Maybe too much h2o. I lift the cup to feel the weight when dry. And water lightly.
dead one looks like damping off, but hard to tell under that lighting. Pictures under regular lighting help a lot more.
I don't think it is damping off. Just looks like it fell over from stretching. Damping off is usually crimped in the stem. Looks healthy other than laying on its side and just needs to be propped up IMO. :peace:

How far away from your plants is your garbage can? Haha

True. I see no brown at the root line. Usually see that in damp off. But I'm not familiar with the vipar. Is it true 600w at the wall?

How would switching bloom on as well help me in this early stage? I thought the only light it can take in right now is the light from the veg switch.

Those "600w" lamps are about 100w actual with the veg switch and about 250w actual with both switches on.
15" is a good distance for that size plant
just veg on for those size seedlings
