When/How Much Defoliation?

This thread sure took another path. It's funny and I'm as guilty of doing it as anyone else.

But to the original question. I wouldn't bother with removing any other leaves. You've already removed more than I would ever do which is none. Those leaves on the bottom will just shrivel up and die. They'll fall off on their own. Let the plant do it's thing.
All i know if i didnt pull

My plants would be just a ball of undeveloped larf

Its why im going to do a side by side to show noobs it isnt as bad as people say.

Sure if you dont grow big leafy plants only pull what you need to .

But there is no way my set up could go unplucked

You guys would die if you knew how many pounds of leaf ive pulled outa this room :)

You have to remember weed is a typical

Meaning it will send more grow power to the highest branches.

If it where me i would bend gently! The tall guys over a little it will help the lower stuff catch up.

Defoliation is always a hot topic .

BUT I GUARANTEE NO ONE DOES A PLANT WITHOUT PULLING OFF SOMETHING

If they are they are getting larf plain and simple.

Ill be doing some more trimming tonight and ill update my journal so you can see what im pulling off.

True outdoors you dont want to defolitae .

But we dont have the sun in our rooms not even close dont care if your setup bleaches plants it aint the sun :)

So far, I'm astonished with how well the AN nutes hold the PH. With General Hydroponics, I was getting swings of up to 0.5+- every day using RO water with 8 PPM. So far the AN water is holding rock solid at 5.80, every day.

But it IS EXPENSIVE. Even at 3/4 strength it's still 12ml of each part per gallon! It's certainly not potent. But the PH stability is amazing!

Mind sharing what you are using?
Dude have you ever measured the ppm of the AN?

MY AN. Grow micro bloom at 2 mills per liter was hitting like 800 ppm
I was like wow i had no idea they had so much stuff in there!.

Ive used AN products for the last 5-7 years mabey longer lol.

I started out using botanicare (loved it) good stuff. Good flavor in finish product.

Then ran gh gmb good stuff. Ok flavor.

Then i tried AN. And loved it but over the last 2 mabey 3 runs with it

Ive gotten weird deficiencies with it .

And i very well could be my bottles are getting old but still . Wasnt happy at all .

So i was trying to use the rest up this run.

And again i got weird deficiency that i never had
Ive always had good luck with an but the last couple runs.

So i figured id switch cause im tierd of nutrient staining on roots . So i wanted a clear nutrient.

I found it with hydrogardens chem grow 4-20

Almost cyrstal clear and the plants. Love it so far (first run using it)

I like it so much i completely stopped using the AN. And im going to donate the AN. To the wild flowers outside :)

I'll have to check those out when I run out of AN. which will obviously happen quickly lol. Does Hydrogardens hold PH at all, or does it need frequent adjustment?

Side Note: I'm noticing GG4 is a huge drinker, and needs a lot of Calcium. I had been supplementing the GH nutes with Calimagic @ 1 tsp/gal and STILL had a few stems go purple and leaves with yellowing. This strain loves Calcium.

Im still getting use to it .

I guess it would be about like gh fairly stable but i wait at least a few hours before i ph after i put it in the system

I havent been coming close to their recommended feed though but 1.5 grams a gallon equals about 750 ish ppm @ph of 7.5 it actually doesnt change the ph of the water much from the start.

Fairley stable so far but that depends on a ton of variables since i run a smaller res i get a ph swing but i chose to do it this way.

If you built with a bigger water volume im sure it would remain stable for a good while. .

It has been preforming excelently so far and i love how my roots are finally white white .

But proof will be at harvest still to come :)

Edit to add i also add 1.5 gr of cal nitrate and mag sulphate

It looks great

You could still lose the stuff undef the yellow line and not hurt anything up to you though as im not there :)

Yeah I agree. I'll let it recover for a couple of days and see how it's doing. Thanks for sharing your experience with nutes. I've done mostly Coco grows so far and wish I had switched to DWC a long time ago. The amount of control with this setup is phenomenal. This is honestly the first plant I've grown with no major issues so far (fingers crossed). I can't wait to get the lady done, all I have is Lemon OG Haze right now which gives me pretty bad paranoia.

this is dumb. light, plants, leaves, they dont work this way. A shadow within the light penetration depth does nothing advers to the surrounding plant materials. want more light then add more light already, not less plant for christs sake.

disconnect a spark plug to save gas?
cut off your hand so you can eat less

my best apples are completely shaded from the sun by foliage.
This is just so good! Very nice @chiqifella

I like to think about it from the plants' perspective... Why take them off? It put them there because it may need them. That being said, if you're growing indoors, you're kinda faking out mother nature anyway... Like many of the other posters I clean up the lower/weaker branches at the start of flower but don't really consider that defoliating as much as trimming... I am convinced the plant adds the leaves to capture more light energy and is more than happy to discard the unneeded leaves once the plant has sufficient light... The bonus is the plant gets to reclaim the energy it expended producing the leaf. Having under-powered lighting in veg, The plants shed leaves quickly once I properly light them in flower.

My plants would be outrageous if i didnt trim, prune defoliate all mean the same thing.

But some people take the word offensively

By definition it is the act of removing leaves.

Either 1 leaf or the whole thing your still technically defoliating unless i just dont have a grasp on the language:)

I was wondering how in the world someone scrog's DWC... I am always pulling out the net pot to inspect roots, top off the water, etc. I also have been changing out all the water every 7 days. Thought about building a scrog net system into my 5-gallon bucket net pot.
After veg I don't look at roots on bottom of bucket no need...top off just slide led over...res. change I use the home depot bucket head shop vac. fill back up with one gal. jug real easy...I don't remove leaves IMG_20180305_174739936.jpg
