Anyone in NE put out their plants mid may? I was thinking of starting a few autos indoors early may and having them finish before it gets all muggy in August. Temps are usually 70s days and 50s nights
I'm in southern Maine and I put plants into the ground right about May 1st last year and they did great, they were pretty good sized plants already and had been hardened off for a bit to get them ready, I wouldn't want to get a frost on them but once your confident it won't frost should be good to go.

Awesome I'm a bit more south then you. I remember last may there was a couple 90° days definitely no frost, hoping this spring will be similar.

Just checked it was like a week later we got our last frost May 6th then the forecast was really good so I moved them out, I did say around May 1st. Had plants outside light dep by mid April taking them in at night before my greenhouse was up. And our climates are nowhere near similar two days ago you just said you have solid snow cover, I played golf outdoors multiple times last week with no snow to be seen, in Maine. My front garden is completely workable no frost at all,
getting the itch to plant cold season veggies already. I just dug this in 10 seconds with my hands IMG_0503.JPG

I always have too much going in veg too early and end up forced to put it outside, not sure that it is ideal to have them out that early but once the plants are decent size and fully rooted it's amazing what they can take. I'll post some pics when I put them outside this year.

If I can get my green house up like I plan. I'd like to start them outside a little earlier than usual. In the past I've always played it safe and put them out last week of May. I'm in southern Maine as well..

Haha I said I got the itch it's about a month early for veggies for me but it looks like April right now so got me dreaming, back to winter Wednesday. I haven't been in Maine long so last year could have been earlier than most, I wait till The 10 day looks good anytime in May and take the chance.

I did have tomato plants outside by the end of April last year which have very similar tolerance for cold if not a little less hardy and these were small plants, we got the heavy frost May 6th and they didn't like that at all but they survived and turned into monster plants. Life finds a way. I will put one out May 1st rain or shine just for fun I'd be surprised if it didn't live and turn into a monster.

Bud rot was horrible last year lost the majority of my outdoor plants, everything in the light dep did good because I run dehumidifiers but it was depressing still. Need to get at least one full season greenhouse to run dehumidifiers in to make sure to keep a lot rot free at the end of the season.

What Sativas do you run? That's my favorite part about light dep as well I've got a bunch of sativa seedlings right now(like I said earlier way to early haha).

Curious what kinds of techniques, mediums, size of containers, soil mixes, etc you guys do. Any one ever use some raised beds with a scrog net over it? Much like you'd see on an indoor grow. How'd that do out side?

I ran plants in the ground last year with 12ftx4ft scrogs per two plants they completely filled them in and some and got to 6 feet tall and then they turned to bud rot. I have put in a few raised beds this year that will be scrogged again. I also run 10 gallon and 20 gallon pots, pots and raised beds are all organic water only, still will have a few in the ground this year that will be fertilized but after this year all organic it's just so much easier.

Nice that should be fun, is the ghost train crossed out as well or is that straight? I mostly grow from clone but my sativa runs are always from seed don't have the space to keep clones all winter and like some variety anyways. Got some Old Timers Haze going, up to 20 weeks flower so that will be in the greenhouse pretty much all summer. I grow a lot of Ace seeds gear they do a really good job with sativas.

You ever make fem seeds with collidal silver? It's something I've been meaning to try. Curious how they turn out if you've tried it.

In Mass last year I got an auto flower out in the middle of may with the tomatoes. I actually got that to finish with seeds and got those plants to finish by fall, although they grew better earlier in the year. It is possible to get two crops in of small autos here. After dealing with some bud rot I did not end up with all that much though, but a few ounces is still better than more tomatoes.
