Sativa madness

Swizz5.jpg This strain is my own cross. It doesn't really have a name, but I call it "Swizzleberry" because the mother is my favourite Swiss Bliss clone (one that I kept for many years but lost a few years ago) and Chimera's Schnazzelberry #2.

I could just as easily call it "Strawberry" because it smells like rotten strawberries with a sweet-evil stank. They are sticky as fuck.

Swizz4.jpg On the left are Swizzleberry #1 and #2, and on the right are Acid #1 and #3.

Swiss Bliss was a Paradise Seeds strain that is no longer available as Luc lost the mother. The mother was a Sativa clone that originated from Switzerland and the father was a "secret" Paradise Seeds indica. Original Swiss Bliss looks very similar to my cross: it has rather weak branches compared to the weight of buds but has one of the best highs I've smoked - not just soaring and heady, but euphoric and clear with absolutely no paranoia. Smoke it any time of the day and it just seems to fit in with the mood.

Schnazzleberry #2 is Blue Domina (Craig's Skunk x DJ Short Blueberry F2) x DJ Short Blueberry F4. The original Schnazz is very blueberry and hashy with a nice, typical Blueberry high.

Id call it patent pending.
Just to fuck with people.

It does look good
Heheh! It's a bit too close to Chimera's original name, plus the seeds obviously aren't a commercial venture. I've lost my original clone, so I just wanted to see how they turned out and if I could find something close to the mother. They have surprised me by with their growth. These are from seed, so the clones should finish a week or so earlier. The original Swiss Bliss was a 9-10 week plant.

Still flowering at 50w/sq ft, eh? You're a braver man than I. But it definitely seems to be working for you, so blaze on! I am curious if you could get similar results at lower wattage, though. Do you think there's any possibility that you're past the point of diminishing returns?

Chimera has some great strains. Not popular these days but really enjoyable for old folks that can't stand heavy smelling strains.

You betcha! Here's an old Calizhar x Schnazzleberry I grew out a few years back in my old 1200w vertical HPS set-up. It yielded 300g (almost 11oz) of dried, trimmed bud.

I've just started some Mental Floss seeds and will probably start another grow log soon.

Yep! I'm currently running 400w in there, but when I first started I had the drivers maxed out at 560w!

I guess I was a bit of a LED skeptic at first and refused to believe they would be anywhere near a decent 600w HPS set-up - which is what I'd normally put in a 4x2 tent - but I was proved very wrong. I did have to bleach a few buds to find out . . .

. . . but it's also worth mentioning that, at least in my experience, light intensity is strain dependent and sativas can handle a lot more than indicas. This seems to be the case, as these plants are not bleaching at all, except for a couple of yellow leaves right at the top of a bud that's about two inches away from the LEDs. You can see it at the back right of the first photo I posted.

Tell me more about the light?
Hey mate, everything is here: https://www.rollitup.org/t/strip-leds-in-the-garden-of-paradise.954799/

But quickly, there are two flowering frames, each 600mm x 500mm with 12 x 3000K 560mm H Series Samsung strips mounted on 40mm x 25mm x 3mm U-channel and each powered by a a HLG-240H-48A driver. The H Series strips are wired two in series and six parallel for a total of 345w @ 48v. The drivers are currently each drawing a measured 200w, so I'm driving the LEDs at just under 60%.

I've built about five of these frames now, with the others using F Series strips. I chose the H Series over the double-row F Series for the better light and heat distribution. Twelve of these H Series strips are equal to four double-row F Series.

These are the latest F Series frames I built. I posted these in another thread. I'm pretty new to LEDs, so this is just my second grow with them.
Nice, clean and simple.

How about 50w/plant?

Well, I've never grown "pure" sativas indoors, but for haze type plants, like the ones below, more light = more yield. Obviously up to a point. You can see how close I used to run them against 2 x 600 HPS bulbs below. That's 1200w in 4x4 - albeit vertical.

Back in the old days, I did try growing out pure Thais under lights, but they stretched and hermed and always did better under full sun outside. I've grown Swazis and Malawis outdoors - never tried them indoors - but from what I remember, they were a little different to the Southeast Asian varieties I grew. They were sent to me by a Saffa around 2003/4, so I don't know if they were the real thing.

I dunno. I know what works under HIDs, but I'm new to LED.
