68% RH too high for curing?

Hey Guys,

I bought some of those boveda packs for curing my weed. Unfortunately where I grow it's very illegal with draconian laws so I can't keep the weed at my house and burp the glass jars each day. I need a solution I can leave and walk away with the least maintenance.

Anyway, I dried the weed in a room set at 50% RH for around 6-7 days until it was perfect (springy when you compress it, etc.)

I then threw the buds in to large mason jars with large 62% RH bodeva packs. Now I'm a bit paranoid, so I also threw in a miniature hygrometer in each jar to check the bodeva packs did their job.

I checked today and all 10 jars are at 68%. Is this OK? Or is it too high to cure the weed?

Thanks for any feedback... J.

No. I agree with Harley, you're likely not going to have a good outcome the way you're doing it, got to burp at least once a day for a couple weeks minimum, and twice daily for the first week is preferred

the only alternative I can think of would be to dry them to let's say 58-62 ish and then jar them?

.. or even over dry them which would be better than mold, at least you can smoke over-dried bud, if there's no alternative ?
-good luck!

Thanks buddy - I'll work something out. I'd love to be able to burp them once a day for the first few weeks. I'm guessing the 49% boveda packs would take them to around 55%

Short answer. YES!

58-62 Boveda's here.

52 Boveda's are getting awful low to actually allow curing to actually work well..

68 is asking for mold problems in jars with no moving air.

Thanks man. I'll order some 58 Boveda's right now.

Dr Who - is it still possible to make nice cured weed even if I can't burp each day? I store my weed at the grow room in a safe complex. My idea was just to dry the weed properly, then throw in glass jars with Bovedas and then burp once a week, or twice a week if I'm working there.

I think I've also made a mistake and the bud isn't dry enough - I was just reading another article about curing and it says if you're bud sticks together in the jar it's still to wet. When I shake my jars, the bud is clumped together.

I guess I'll go to my grow room tomorrow and open up the jars and leave them open for a day or two to allow the bud to dry out more. Then reseal them.

The use of Boveda's and glass containers. Works great for what you suggest. Once or twice a week is fine with Boveda's in the jars...
See, they regulate the RH and actual "burping" is not "really" needed. Nice to do a cpl of time though.

Take the packs OUT of the jars. Let them sit and see where the RH stabilizes at. You should have a pretty accurate reading in 24 hours.
Then knock your RH down to desired level.
Next time hit your desired RH first. If your Boveda pack is full it won't absorb excess moisture.

Thanks man, I know what I've done, I haven't let the buds dry enough (hence them sticking together in the jar) and like you said, the boveda packs must be full, so the humidity is high.

I leave for another country in 2 days, so today I will leave the jars open (with boveda packs removed) for 24 hours to help the buds dry out a bit more, then close the jars back up.
