ok this shows how much people have researched. we all have opinions, whatever.
so here's what my research says:
lumens is how visible light is to humans. it doesnt mean anything to plants.
green leds of the same watt of blue will appear many many times brighter than the blue, bc green is in the dead center of max human vision. the blue is just as bright, it just doesnt appear that way to people. the plant is opposite. the dim blue and red glow of the led is brighter to them than the green light.
so why are hid's measured in lumens? bc 1 people dont know any better and 2 they werent originally measured with pot growers in mind. its for people to see.
so, if u have 1 watts of green, and 1 watt of blue, i think the lumen difference is somewhere between 100 and 600x. meaning 1 watt of green puts off 600 something lumens, 1 watt of blue would be like... 3 lumens. i dont really feel like looking up a chart, but u can find one with google.
also, uvb leds can burn your eyes and skin. so uh.. why is everyone just recommending them? a lot of non-led growers giving a lot of risky and b.s. led information.
you should check out "cogi's LED grow" on reefermanseeds.com as a starting point, then moving onward from there. its one of the best LED experiements with cannabis i've seen, including building setups and pictures of growing. unfortunately he lost his crop to root rot later on, but seeing his setup and read the material is great.
much love
your putting a lot more light on the plants than you think.
edit: heres some info
see how green looks way brighter to our eyes? HID have a lot of green output, which accounts for a lot of its lumen output. on this scale look at the bottom numbers between 420-470nm, and 620-740nm. these are the ranges that plants use best. it barely registers in our eyes. oh, and somewhere in the 500nm is a peak for beta carotine production.. we see pretty well in that. dunno if it matters much or at all in canabis
