Yup, he did have a southern accent though.

Cash because machines won't be up..can't take credit or debit cards..everything is cash. Tubs of water to flush your toilet the raw sewage stays put in your neighborhood and starts to back up..it's september..no AC? take a guess what starts to happen.
Never gave it enough thought to think about sewers and whatnot. Again, those who have experienced this before will do much better than toothbrushes and pillows.

Friends of ours sent a picture of their home as they were leaving yesterday. They dont think it will even be standing when they get back. They are right down the middle of this thing.

Lazy, blame everything on Trump. Puerto Rico gov't officials leave millions of bottled water stranded on runway.

there is speculation these pictures might be fake. as in taken a while back and these bottles are not really there at the moment.

but anyways - disaster emergency management services are mandated to be handled by FEMA. There is a federal agency tasked with handling these scenarios.

in the past in PR FEMA has done a good job at handling disaster relief coordination operations. the federal government would release emergency funds, set up a disaster command center, and logisitcal support would be flown down 1-2 days before the event - then the operation would get under way as the storm progressed and passed.

the local government has always just handled the setting up of emergency shelters and evacuation orders (which for the size and economic condition of PR are actually world-class) - they are set up in public schools. everybody gets a cot, everybody gets a blanket, there are working bathrooms, working showers, and you get 2 fairly good meals a day..... that's what the PR government knows how to do, and it is done very well. typically 12 hours before a storm hits most shelters are full, most flood prone areas are evacuated, and most people that live in wood/sub-par homes are in shelters.....

This time around the governor declared a state of emergency, the federal government did not release emergency funds or send personnel down beforehand (like they had done in the past). when the funds to pay for disaster relief were calculated at 12 billion dollars - the federal government did not release the funds, instead offered a zero-interest loan of 10 billion dollars to the local government.

when the entire island was without power - FEMA couldn't find a place to triage. they settled on the convention center near old san juan because it is near the airport, there is a small coast guard base nearby, and the place had working power plants and internet.
this was 48 hours after the storm had passed - when in the past the very next day you had FEMA distribution centers out handing out water sterilizing tablets, blue tarps to replace roofs, among other things.

I know PR very well and know people that live there. One person I know was stuck in her house which isn't in some random mountain - it's near San Juan about 2 miles from a main road - for 4 weeks. 4 FUCKING WEEKS - without equipment available to clear the road to let people through. that's what caused people to die.

FEMA didn't establish a contact line for contractors with yellow equipment to bid and offer services for clearing debris. a lot of people worked 15 hours a day clearing roads and never got paid. the local government did what they could. FEMA completely botched this response.

No triage center established beforehand. no plan on getting contractors in place to clear roads. no plan for what roads should be cleared first. no plan to handle the 120.000 hospitalised patients when the power went out. no evacuation plan for people in ICUs around the country (charities had to pay private chartered flights for this - FEMA didn't do shit for these people)....

it was a disaster. a complete disaster and FEMA should be held accountable. how can the federal agency tasked with emergency management not handle an emergency correctly??

it wont be. hurricanes mangle steel..anything near eyewall when it lands will be flattened..i hope the evangelicals will come to understand why you help your AMERICAN neighbor not the right or left leaning or white over black/brown..this WILL change many to their core.

believe it or not..these people will finally understand why good government needs to exist and it's going to take this to convince them.

this is going to change the electorate there, bigly.

Louisiana and Texas are still Republican strongholds. I'd like to think you are right but I don't.

When I heard N and S Carolina were in the track of this storm, I looked up how they voted in 2016 and smiled.

you know who did get paid?

A pro-statehood celebrity chef began preparing meals for people without power. the meal consisted of rice, beans and a protein. Estimated cost of materials per plate was said to be around $3 dollars. all the people working his kitchens volunteered time to cook and prepare the boxes. he went ahead and then handed FEMA a bill for $80 per plate which was paid in full.

if you do the math that's 25 MILLION dollars just handed to a political hack who just happens to be very pro-US and friends with the likes of Marco Rubio..... when confronted the guy said I have to make a living too, my 3 restaurants in PR are closed.... when his other 12 in the US were open and making profit.....when one of the food trucks that he worked with asked for their agreed upon 36k dollars for using their food truck to prepare x amount of meals- the guy bailed to the US and never responded. they ended up settling for less than 40% of the original contract worth....

these are the types of contracts FEMA handed out during this emergency, the type of wasteful cronyism that needs to be investigated.....

There’s a pile of lumber “stranded” on the driveway out front now too

Your picture proves nothing

Most of the 3000 Americans who died lacked access to medical care because there was no electricity on the island. If trump had hired actual repair workers instead of zinke’s unprepared, crony company they might have stood a chance

Trump has the blood of 3000 Americans on his tiny hands

after we got hit with Irma last year, i was entitled to take a 'hurricane distribution' from my 401k..work wouldn't approve it because i didn't have receipts..seems they didn't understand that you have no electricity; nobody's handing out fvcking receipts:finger:

they happen to be in Charlotte.

i really hope they remember to get their receipts:lol:

Everything is going to be fine President Trump promised
We can all sleep better due to all his hard work in North Korea
The middle east is at peace
Russia has been thwarted
China is going to allow us to pay more for everything as a response to tariffs
Canada may end up building its own southern Trump tribute wall
The Saudis are willing to loan Jared money for access to the POTUS
And Mar Lago is having a clearance sale on all Trump merchandise prior to the storm
Plus all the children ripped from their families have adequate camping supplies
Just kick back and relax Trump has this
