Neighbor called the cops on me.

But what I don't understand, and maybe you can clarify for us is why you didn't just tell the police it's your Philips Hue lighting system on the initial phone call and be done with it, as you live in a legal/legal State?
The cops would have asked if he was growing marijuana. If he lied, they could use that against him in a big way if they find out otherwise. So, the whole idea is, don't talk to cops, PERIOD.

I did tell the cops about my lights.

They have an open case being investigated, and I’m sure they need to check the box that the investigation has been completed.

When cops are investigating someone by name. They are already unfortunately in the system. If something happens in the future related to that person or location they will be targeted again.

Police are promoted on arrest records. Not public service. And not convictions first but arrests.

Never tell cops anything. And it’s best to avoid any situation that will bring them or get us questioned.

When I lived in apartments and saw a neighbor with police. Even though I am curious I walk the other way.

Out of sight out of mind. And even legal out of smell is still necessary.

Lay low folks. Real low.

First no, they can't, he's not under oath. Next he didn't have to answer either way he, could have said there must be some mistake and then ended the call. Done.

What he has to worry about now and moreover is the condo committee.

* way earlier someone mentioned they couldn't believe a detective had nothing better to do in a big city; has anyone considered that maybe his neighbor is related to the cop? Just putting it out there

https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/lying-police-should-crime/ Additionally, when I was a teen, I got arrested for giving fictitious information to a police offer.
That's why most of us here have said don't talk to Cops AKA keep your mouth shut & say nothing one way or the other

Your article talks about lying during a criminal investigation; a phone call asking if your growing pot plants is not a criminal investigation.

Hard to believe this is going on in a legal/legal State, you must have pissed off somebody's relative, maybe the cops mum lives in your building?

Beachwalker, I might be wrong. But I would assume that as soon as he answered the phone, the investigation was active. Again, I could be wrong...Edit: Actually, I would assume that as soon as the woman complained, it became an investigation.

As soon as there is a complaint there is a file as I understand it. And entered into the system.

But no need to lie to police. We do not have to say anything to incriminate ourselves. It is our right to be silent.

We can also say we want a lawyer and will only answer in his presence.

I totally agree (guess I'm not being clear?) I've said several times above to say nothing during the initial call, that's not lying.

Most bullshit things like this will go away, especially in a legal / legal. It's hard to believe they'd contact him about that in the first place, but if it doesn't go away he's likely pissed off some cop's mum or auntie in the building

We agree. I just think it’s important enough to reiterate.

There is a phrase in rental agreements that says something like agree to follow all federal and state regulations. When this is present in the lease any growing is a federal offense.

When I learned this I checked mine when I was leasing a few years ago. It only said state of Michigan regulations. Making my med grow allowed under the mmmp regs.

However, if a cop wants to charge me with trafficking none of this really matters. I’m a felon again in the eyes of the law.

Best just keep your mouth shut, don’t admit to anything. I had to learn this the hard way.
Got arrested for a DUI because I had an unlit joint in my car. Just like OP, i was sober, a legal med patient and felt I had nothing to hide so I did the field sobriety tests, which seemed easy enough at the time. Cop lied about me failing the sobriety tests and of course a urinalysis came back positive for cannabis.
I ended up beating them in court but it cost me money to hire a lawyer.
Moral of the story is don’t admit to anything or trust any cop.

Ha, my neighbor was on a freaking ladder last Friday looking over on our side after 8:00 pm. When we asked him “ can we help you with something” he eased his way back down silently. We’re still debating how to handle that one. No smells or lights can be seen from our backyard, some people are just weirdos.
I think you already know how to handle this one.. NUDE Gardening, make sure your bending over attending to the roses when he pops his head over.. but from the sounds of it he's probably into that sort of thing.

To the OP To be honest it sounds like this whole thing could of gone away with you apologizing for stinking out your neighbors and a $20 smokebuddy. But No you probably did what you did to everyone who didn't agree with you in this thread and called them names and abused them. So in turn she has called the police and obviously just said you are growing weed, ( who cares about the stupid colour lights lol that is a moot point)

I never onced recieved a phone call b4 police take action, my door got slammed in swatted by atleast 16 task force. breached the back door and the front at same time. All the fuckers are in black with SMGS that was roughly 10 years ago, now still blacklisted. Point of the story is police are out to destroy us not make peace. Loose lips sink ships, stay silent with a smile

UPDATE

So I opened my door and let the cop inside. 2 plainclothes detectives and a uniformed officer. I opened my closet, and showed them the plants. They were satisfied.

Then they asked me about the ventilation, and offered that that may be my problem if it’s just venting outside. I explained that these 6 plants are in Veg, and won’t begin smelling until they flower. Then I pointed to a carbon filter and explained it was for odor. Then I said ‘let’s get out of my bedroom’.

We talked in the living room for about 10 minutes, and I explained the history with my cunt neighbor. Cops let me know that the complaint came in anonymous.

When I let the cops out, they had another uniformed officer in the hallway. 4 cops to handle this garbage. All clear.

Cops were actually cool as fuck. I was also high as fuck while dealing with them.

All is well that ends well. God bless California.

Cool. How did the bitchin' frizzy in your avatar respond to them?

These were also detectives that responded, and they let me know that the complaint had come in a while ago, and that they had been investigating me, and had kind of come to a conclusion that I was not TRAFFICKING as had been reported to them anonymously.

That is why he opened up and let me know why he was coming out to my place.

Anything they say is to help gain them evidence. And anything they do is usually standard procedure.

They are not friendly and they don’t come to conclusions without evidence. Evidence is their agenda.

They wanted in. That is a serious warning to how you are conducting yourself.

Be careful man.
