Because cannabis is still federally illegal we are still seen as criminals to some extent of the law. The state is going against the wishes of the federal government to make cannabis legal. IL is not the most open minded state when it comes to guns so I don't see them making guns legal for medical cannabis users in IL any time soon. Currently the law does not prevent you from owning a gun, it only prevents you from being able to purchase future guns. I'm not sure how they will be approaching the gun issue for opiate alternative. They already have enough on their hands trying to figure out how to properly implement the new program. The gun side of politics is even more difficult in this situation because there are some people that use cannabis for depression and anxiety. Those conditions could be seen as someone who is mentally unfit. How do we know if that person will be safe with a gun. I am all for responsible gun owners as I am one myself, but I do understand the concern for some people. At the end of he day don't be surprised if the opiate alternative program operates the same way.If you go with the Opioid Alternative Pilot Program can you still own a gun.
Ridiculous question but either you’re a criminal or not. What does one have to do with the other.
