I recently been enjoying my smoke which helps my pain from a work injury "fell around 18 ft from a weldshop job and lucky to be alive now"... Dr prescribe pain meds actually make me very sick, and alcohol although I do love it, has been giving me health problems as of late... A friend introduced me something else for my pain and it was very nice, relaxing and actually taken my pain away, not just mask it. And for the first time in 20 years since my accident I can actually have a laugh and enjoy myself...

Anyway, my friend who hooked me up said in our area its not easy to get, and when you do, you dont know what strain it is, you just get what you get. I know Im more partial to indica then sativa, just me I guess... So I been researching on just growing my own. My mind was blown with how much of a science this is and I love it. The growing seems as fun as anything...

I just recently purchased a grow tent which will easily fit in a corner in my basement. Basement is more like a living area then a basement, carpeting, etc... The tent is 2x4 and 60" high. Most likely a little bigger then I need but it was on sale at amazon and got some good reviews.

Im not rushing to get this put together, I actually want to take my time and do it properly and right, as I for see this being a life hobby that I will enjoy and put my heart and soul into.

Now here is my question please. I am looking at lighting to be the next thing to add to this, and been looking at the Phlizon Newest 600W LED Plant Grow Light. It comes with a digital humidity thermometer and adjustable rope. It seems "to me at least" something good for a beginner, not that I wouldnt learn the deeper aspects of lighting later in time, but something to get started with... I plan on starting with one plant, and hydro at that which would be a little down the road.

For a grow tent that size I stated, with one plant, would this be to much light? not enough light? Is it really geared for newbies such as me until I progress and grow with my learning down the road?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you can source a strain called darlins net, its excellent for pain management. Beans used to be found at greatlakesgenetics. I am fortunate enough to have a hopefully keep a long time more, dansBuds (may he rest in peace) personal pheno he found while seed hunting yrs back.

I used it exclusively for my last knee surgery vs vicoden. I got hooked on Vics 4 yes ago from 2 prior knee surgeries. I did not take even 1 pill. Just smoked constantly for 5 days.

Thats what Drs tried to get me on, vicodines. I did take them for awhile in the beginning, but all they did was make me feel like throwing up constantly, massive headache, sea sick feeling, and my body started quickly bloating up real fast, to the point I couldnt even put on sock in just a few days... Some people love them, I never did like them at all, so I just got into drinking heavily, but due to that Ive been having to get parensintesis about 9 times to drain bile out of my stomach. Which is when a friend introduced me to smoke and been seeing nothing but up sides to this. Mind you, since I began with smoke I havent touched a drop of alcohol since and been feeling pretty good.

But its hard to get in my area for whatever reason. So I been looking into growing, just for myself, which is pretty neat, the whole concept. I got my grow tent ordered and next Im going to add a light which I dont know if I can overkill a plant with to much light, or not enough? I know there are better quality out there, but something to get started as a newbie to help me grow into this new journey. Ill check out darlins...

Just a heads up, I got my 73yr old uncle (Vietnam vet) off a 4+yr oxy habit in 3 months from smoking darlins net flowers. Hes been oxy clean for almost 6 months now. And he lives a MUCH better quality of life. Come to think about it, I've yet to sit n smoke with him yet.

I live with my father. Im 49 now. Its just me him and my pup "in the profile photo"... My father is on dr prescribed pain management with oxy's and all he does is get depressed as can be. He smokes with me sometimes and enjoys it. This is just a bad time of year for him right now. Problem is, hes my father, care about him but he also can take everyone down with him when he gets like that. I tried to get him to fire up with me earlier but he said he cant right now because hes got a test at the dr pain management soon. Thank goodness we have elected officials to decide for us as adults what we should and shouldn't do. I hate to say this, as much as I LOVE my state I live, most likely we'll be the very last where it becomes legal. And still then, I can pretty much guarantee it will be hyper regulated at that.. Which is just one of many reasons I just want to grow for myself and no one else, not really even friends. Just kind of keep it my own personal little hobby to pursue, enjoy and have fun learning at the same time...

Yup
Same shit they gave my uncle when I 1st started to help. They made him "drop" (piss tested), and said if he tests + again, he gets booted. So I gathered up 2 mo ths scripts for him, walked into the dr office with him, and told his dr to the dr face to suck my balls and fuck you! Then walked out the door, never looking back. The oxy stockpile was incase the darlins net wasnt helping. It did, so I flushed 180 oxy down the shitter. I felt it safer to flush, than walk into a police station and giving cops free drugs to use or sell, or get me arrested for having a controlled substance not prescribed to me.

It's not going to happen overnight. The first 2-3 weeks are hell, but well worth the help for a better quality of life in the future.

My fathers the kind who, when ya drink with him, he says you drink to much as hes slurring his words. its kind of comical actually. I told him Id rather see him smoke instead of hitting the pain meds. There is an animated ad on tv where this cartoon chick is walking around with this pain med thats like twice her size, arms and legs, going on how she uses prescribed pain meds from drs and has ibs, so ask your drs for such and such a med to help with ibs when taking prescription pain meds... The whole commercial looks like some bad episode of King of the Hill actually...

All I think is... WOW, if she talks and hangs out at a park with a giant pain med, shes got some pretty major problems other then ibs!!! :O

What Im getting at is, the dr stuff just creates other problems, which gets those drs to prescribe more meds to try and supposedly help side effect conditions, which was all caused by one drug they given to begin with... Like, creating a customer base... Its actually crazy...

With me getting off pain meds, it actually wasnt to hard, being I hated them to begin with. With me it was more like a Pavlov's Dog sort of thing. Just reached for them out of habit only because thats what I did for awhile. I only speak for myself on this though. Once I got off them I had no regrets and although still in pain, didnt even bother looking back at them, just went to drinking, which did cause some health issues which are getting ironed out now being Ive stopped drinking since Ive started my new journey smoking. Actually, as much of a drinker Ive been all my life "more heavily when I got injured" I honestly havent even craved a beer or shot of bourbon to be honest, which has tremendously help improve my health.

hello kentuckythunder,

welcome to rollitup.

the light you're looking at, Philizon 600w, is an okay LED light but I would not recommend it and I will explain why. If you carefully read the Amazon page for that light, you'll see that it says this: "COMPARE TO HPS/MH- The 600W LED grow light can replace traditional 400 watt HPS/MH while consuming only 108 watts!" What this means for our purposes is that this is a 108w light. 600W is the sum of the max output of all the diodes, but the True power is 108 watts.

a common recommendation when picking lights is 35-40watts per square foot for high efficiency LED, or 50watts per square foot for HID, or low efficiency LED. to oversimplify a bit, lights that emit a blue/red/purple light are more often low efficiency LED while white lights (quantum boards, strips, and COB LEDs) are more often high efficiency LED.

your tent is 2x4, 8 square feet. so, I would recommend 240-320w of High efficiency LED or 400w HPS/low efficiency LED.

some options (these are DIY kits which would require you to assemble them and wire them but save you some money):
https://chilledgrowlights.com/our-products-services/diy-led-grow-light-kits/chilled-300w-linear-plug-and-play-kit 300w for $499
https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/collections/kits/products/320w-xl-qb-v2-led-kit 320w+ for $457
https://www.rapidled.com/chilled-logic-2-x-4-led-grow-kit/ 315w for $449
(these are ready to hang fixtures):
https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/collections/lamps/products/hlg-elite-360 360w for $799
https://growerslights.com/collections/horticulture-lighting-group-quantum-board-led-kits/products/horticulture-lighting-group-320-watt-xl-quantum-board-led-kit 320w+ for $512 (same as HLG 320w kit but pre-assembled)
https://timbergrowlights.com/model-3vl/ 300w for $449

if you want to save some coin, consider the old fashioned way
https://www.amazon.com/iPower-Digital-Dimmable-System-Reflector/dp/B00A3679T6 400w for $109
if you want to go with an LED but want to save money (and I would not recommend this) you need at least 400w true watts,
https://www.amazon.com/VIPARSPECTRA-Reflector-R900-Spectrum-Indoor/dp/B00UORXSIU for $260 for example.

good luck.
again, welcome to the community.

Same boat, years of injuries and surgeries and don't want to be on pain meds
.
What's your budget? Blurples are not ideal for MJ, but it'll grow, if you have the money Id recommend Quantum Board LEDs, they are the cheapest on the electrical bill and brightest per watt of any other type of light.

If you have a 2'x 4' tent, then that is perfect for 2 plants. I recommend a 2'x 2' space per plant. In general the bigger the plant the bigger and better the buds. You can fit 8 plants in a 2x 4 tent but the plants wold have to be much smaller and the buds will also be then too, and you'd need 8 seeds or 8 clones every time you wanted to grow out your 2x 4 tent. Some people opt for small plants that only produce one bud, they use lots of them to cover an area, this method is called Sea Of Green or SOG. People use this technique as there's little veg time needed before flipping to flower. Then there's the folks that use 1 or 2 plants to cover an area, but train the stems with netting and wires ect to grow in a wide array so that the lower branches that typically wouldn't see much light and typically have small airy buds are now trained to grow out from under and reach up so that they receive full light like the main branches do. This increases yield and is called Screen Of Green or SCROG.

If your just starting out using soil and hand watering and only want one plant, then the blurple will give you an idea of what's up and you can upgrade as you upgrade your grow to hydro ect, but if you're going to spend at least $90 (blurple) initially, and it's something you see yourself doing as a hobby in the future then Id recommend spending a little more on a QB to get started.

3500-4000k is good for the entire grow, veg to flower, you'll want to pick this spectrum if you only want to buy 1 light instead of 2 specific lights for veg and flower.

016 lm/w - Incandescent
060 lm/w - CFL
079 lm/w - MH
090 lm/w - Household LED
109 lm/w - CMH
120 lm/w - Low-end COB
145 lm/w - HPS
175 lm/w - Name brand COB
190 lm/w - QB LED

This is good for 1 plant... $179

This would fill your 2x4 no matter how many plants you had in it...$299

Hey, Thanks for the welcome and also the advise. I can use all the advise I can... Once I finally get things going, my two biggest obstacles are...

Keeping my pup in good fun play time which she loves when I smoke, We play alot of tug'o'war and catch.

The other is needing a bigger pipe which I just gotten recently. I use to have to always get those little 3" pipes which when my father would hit up with me, his hands are so big the smaller pipe actually pops out of his hand... Almost exactly like that 3 stooges episode where the stoogies were tossing grapes into that opera singers mouth, then Curley makes a banana fire out and fly across the room into his mouth. My father always feels bad and gets upset when he does that. I just cant stop laughing and keep trying to remind him it was cheap and no big deal... I honestly think this time of year and the dr pain meds get him reasons to be down. I mean seriously, its hilarious when it happens though...

OH NO, for the first time in about 20 years Im actually enjoying myself and my health improving; quick, someone put a stop to this madness :o

Find a used or cheap hood
.cmh mogul socket adapter
Cmh bulb
Cmh ballast

Done

And only uses 315w of power. You should be able to get away with NO ac. As long as you have good in/exhaust air movement, and your lung to room is 80* or under.

I preach cmh as I see what it can and does do. I swapped out 7x600w hps/mh for 8x 315cmh and never looked back.

That's almost halving your light output, (7x600x145 = 609klm : 8x315x109 = 334klm) the CMH just had that much better of a spectrum and better light spread? I've never used CMH but know it's very good as far as spectrum goes, I bet 2500w vs 4200w is much nicer on your AC and electrical bill
