Dial drivers down or not?

I run strips but same diodes, I run mine balls to the walls as hard as the driver will go. The higher you NEED to hang them, the better for penetration.
This is interesting ANC, obv my newbie grow brain was thinking the opposite, if I run them soft and slam the fixtures down on top of the plants it would allow the light to penetrate better, what are the benefits to running strips soft and having light close to canopy? other than efficiency?

still trying to learn and navigate my way around all of this stuff, bare with me

About to build my first fixtures soon, i went the soft route with lots of strips.

what is it that makes the sun capable of growing flowers right down to the bottom branches of 20 feet tall trees? (apart from its arc through the sky)

I agree for a carpet like canopy, low and closer would be the appropriate adjustment for efficiency.

Then like with my current grow I have one table with a bunch of phenos, some short and squat others pushing 6 feet.
I'm still getting adequate light down to the lower tops with the dual strips driven hard.

Diffuse light certainly has its benefits, would you say bringing lights closer makes them more diffuse or more point source like?

Well 2 of my 3 tables are running with drivers that are defective. Noting I can do about it till the round is done.
They seem to be doing OK, but I know what the full potential is with lm561C. running the extra square footage makes up for it a little.

getting it right vs getting it wrong, with the same cut, same room same food, is the difference between 20cm colas and golf balls.

The driver power has nothing to do with how high you need to hang the light. Height adjustment is only needed for uniformity of the light distribution.

no, what I mean is these drivers start flickering randomly or dimming too much, a good wack with something heavy gets them ok for a few hours, but it is a losing game.
They gotta go. Last time I use anything but Meanwell.
