Does anyone ever scrog outside?

I wanted to try some autos outdoors this summer. Thought about putting a small screen over some to open up the canopy and create some more prime bud sites? Anyone ever try this or is this a waste of time outdoors?

Did a nice scrog with a photo last year. Did alot of lst until it was at the top of the 4 foot fencing.Screenshot_20190501-172144_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20190501-172256_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20190501-172313_Gallery.jpg
Unfortunately this was the worse plant I had for mold and lost over half of it. And the other half wasnt fully matured when i made the chop. Got 1lb cured out of it so I'm guessing no mold and fully matured would of been close to 2.5lbs.

Consider just topping and supercropping. You have far stronger light outdoors for canopy penetration. SCROG is to accomplish the same thing really. I top 3 times leaving 8 main branches. Then snap the stems. Correctly. Forget LST. Bend it and move on. You will have to bend or snap regularly and it doesn’t hurt the plants.

We are going to also attempt some kind of scrog to limit the height this season. Not autos though and only about half the pot size (~30 gal). Our +10 feet plants last season were beyond our control for light cycles, and they got wrecked by fall winds and mold. Want to keep things to a 5-6 feet max.

Great plants @Citylimits!

See, I always thought the point of SCROG was for height control, or light penetration maximization. Outdoors you have much better penetration... and not sure when height would be an issue other than a greenhouse?

Great, clones not autos. Autos you don’t wanna touch.
Recommend putting a wire cage around the plant. Then, super crop the top and pull all of your lateral stems through the wire cage. Super cropping the top promotes laterals to grow. Pulling stems through the cage keeps them lower and gives a wider canopy. I’ve gotten 8 foot tall,10 foot wide plants like this. You think you’re gonna keep them to 6 feet, but once the flowering stretch is on, there is nothing you can do.
A Scrog type net over the top of the cage would do more to help during winds, etc., to stabilize the big buds that grow through the net.
The laterals that you pull through the cage can further be stretched out using twine or even hang weights like metal washers, etc. on the stems to make them hang further out.

I grew autos outdoors last summer. I topped them once which I highly recommend, but I would not scrog them. I have scrogged outdoors, like others, for the height restrictions. My outdoor scrog (with photos) was 4' x 12' and had three plants under it, and it was kind of a pain in the ass to work with in terms of trimming etc. At this point I'd only grow autos outdoors, fall weather here sucks and can ruin a crop, autos finish up in August long before the rain comes. I will say the genetics are still a bit unpredictable, last summer's autos production ranged from 1/2oz to around a pound.

I’ve got a Maui Waui outside that has been topped and lst in a 200 gallon bed that I’m gonna scrog.

Never scrogged outdoors so what’s the best time to put the first netting up? I’m just north of the 49th in the Kootenays.

I am thinking topping my autos isn't something I want to do. I am worried it will reduce my end yields. Most of my plants are advertised as 8-10 week plants and they are currently 3 weeks in. I decided to just use LST and see what I end up with. It's my first year doing autos...
