Thinking about switching from hydro growing to soil growing need all the helpful advice I can get and it is already very much appreciated.
What kind of set up are you going for?Thinking about switching from hydro growing to soil growing need all the helpful advice I can get and it is already very much appreciated.
But why? Lol kinda a joke I guess but for real.i can't grow in dirt to save my life I prefer Coco or other hydronic methods. First off knowing when to water dirt has always been a problem for me and second I just like to be able to know exactly what's going on in the root zone. With Coco or hydro I know exactly what I'm putting in the root zone. If I need more or less of something can do that. With dirt you never really know your just kinda guessing and if there is an issue flushing the plant slows down growth while you wait however long for it to respond.
I was planning on drain to waste in 5 gal buckets the room is approx 10’x5’x8’ (l-w-h) I built 5 custom quantum led pans each are driven by hlg 240b drivers, the drain to waste set up is just old res’s for the buckets to be in with pumps on a float valve to pump out the waste water... I want to switch to soil from hydro because there are more freedoms awarded to you in soil growing that cannot be afforded to me as a hydro grower, specifically I’m going to be far less dependent on power (besides lights) and really I have a space that won’t change in size and I can put more buckets of soil in a room then I can water because of all the added bs with hydro like air and water pumps and timers and the rest of the stuff ur bucket count goes down, at the end of the day I think soil is a better option of medium for meWhat kind of set up are you going for?
Hey thank you for this, am watering by hand in 5gal pots with premix super soil In a 3x6 area I will have 2 flowering all the time, my schedule is perpetual and I’m also concerned with veg times and also with growth rates, timing is everything and making sure they have the right energy for flower is important so I am nervous about the switch throwing a wrench into my schedule lol, how do they come back from pruning or topping when in soil? Lol there are a pile of things I’m wondering and questions I don’t know to ask that will need to be answered lol thanks for the help everyone I will show the progress from planting to smoking my first soil grown budsoil is easy to grow
ph 6-6.5
ec 0.6-2.3
4x4 100-150 liter of soil
4 or 6 big pots or 20 - 40 smallpots for 4x4 area
if you wash by hand it is very easy not to let the water out of the pots and wait for it to dry to flood again
7 liter pot max water 1.5 liter for a day but 0.5 -1 liter is perfect (when you are in flower stage )
20 liter pot max water 5-6 liter for a day but 3-4 liter is perfect ("""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""")
if you use a premix soil for 2 or 3 week only water no nutes (is easy)
if you grow under the leds add a calmag before 2 week flowering .....
I feel like the plants are the ones who tell us what’s going on in the root zone, just cause you can see your roots doesn’t always mean you are aware of their problems such as root rot (easy to see in the roots) but other issues are easily diagnosed by looking at all the hints your plants give you, the leaves in general do so many different things depending on the plants problem that I don’t feel like I will be completely unaware of issues I may run into not seeing roots as opposed to seeing the roots... The plants tell me plenty and soil medium offers me more freedoms to my space... hydro is awesome grows big n fast but I hear soil is wonderful and if you make your own super soil or buy it mixed you don’t need to even buy nutes, just compost tea (red frog premium blend) and waterBut why? if in doubt, ask me if I can help you .... how many plants do you have?Hey thank you for this, am watering by hand in 5gal pots with premix super soil In a 3x6 area I will have 2 flowering all the time, my schedule is perpetual and I’m also concerned with veg times and also with growth rates, timing is everything and making sure they have the right energy for flower is important so I am nervous about the switch throwing a wrench into my schedule lol, how do they come back from pruning or topping when in soil? I will have 2 flowering the goal is over 1lb plants in soil, I’m using super soil (subcool’s recipe) being amended into FF Ocean forest, Ff happy frog, and Coast of Maine growers mix stonington blend potting soil amended all together, going to water with microbe tea once a week or once every two weeks at the least. Also making Protozoa tea 1to 2 times a month. Also kenpark thanks a bunch I will def be in touch it’s much appreciatedif in doubt, ask me if I can help you .... how many plants do you have?
I’m running 9 in a 4X4 tent under 1000 watts HPS. Pro Mix with no added perlite in 3 gallon bags! Entering week 5 of flower and that tent is full. Of bud. Do not add extra perlite or you’ll be watering every day. Feed every watering using Jungle Juice in rainwater doing Lucas Formula with cal mag each feed. No burn and no bullshit.I like variety so 9 3 gal containers of promix in a 42"x42" area makes for a full area. I got really lazy and switched to mega for nutes. I don't even pH anymore. It ends up from 6.1 to 6.3 pH in ro water running an ec of ~1.4. Getting lazy.
Thanks today is day one of flower let’s see how big these ladies can get...Looking good there garden
