Thinking about giving up

on my first attempt. Shall I? My plants (4 of them) are 16 days old and look like this

i've got 9x20 watt cfl cool daylight. The stems are long cos when I started I had them under a house lamp. I going to replace the soil any day now. I had been using a fluffy soil but had to use garden soil when i repotted as I ran out but I'm thinking are they too far gone to salvage and make something of them or am I just being impatient? I don't know what the PH levels and the temp is not hot or anything just cool.

Get cheap potting soil from the store (stay away from the miracle grow shit) and a bag of Perlite ( Again stay away from the MG shit), mix it anywhere from 20/80 to 50/50 perlite/soil. Put it into a 3 gallon pot and dig a hole for the plant to fit in, bury the plant all the way up to the first set of leaves, water really good and then leave it alone for 3-4 days.

What do you want to put into it is the question?
You need a decent soil mix, a gentle fan to circulate fresh air and make strong stems which it appears you need (very important) around and temperatures in the 70's when all your light are on, water every other day or when the soil has a chance to dryout and mist with a spray water 2x a day to keep up the humidity during veg.
If you have to, just buy miracle-gro potting soil and don't add any nutrients to it ($5 a bag for more then you will need to fill 2 gal pots(you should go with three gal ones from wal-fart they cost like $2 a piece).
I also would go with stronger lights to penetrate deeper into the plant or make sure yours are within 3 inches and spread evenly throughout your plants.
Keep it simple and be patient. Keep asking questions until you get the answers your looking for. YOU HAVE 4 LIVING GANJA PLANTS!!!!!!!!

If you have the motivation to, do what NoDrama said and stay away from the MG, but if your not feeling motivated then get MG and replant at least.

never about giving up, they actually look ok, lil stretched and some pretty tough soil but put that right (do what the guys above said) and they should be fine.

when you get your perlite make sure that does not MG in it also as that shit has nutes also. if thats all you can find you can wash it off before you use in a strainer. I had plants look ten ties as worse and didn't give up. this is a long process it takes along time to ajusted to not looking at your plants.
When I first started I was obsessed looking at them every half hour to see if there was a change. and when there was change I couldn't see it. Take care of them once or twice a day and forget them. They will be fine.

Ahh man I had a freaking 'mare these last two days. First off the ol dear plugs out the lights and forgets to turn them back on. So I go up to my loft and 2 are dead. So now i'm down to my last 2 plants. They were looking really illage for for a while and no amount of mouth to mouth would save them that finished them off. I'll spill a bit for my fallen soldiers. *Tips drink. Anyway I took your peoples advise and bought 2 big fuck off pots (I couldn't say how big they are all i know they were 12.5" diameter ) Perlite and potting soil. I gave both plants a generous watering before I leave them for my 4 days non troubling. Anyway whilst sorting out the plants 3 of my bulbs and fitting blew up so now i'm down to 120 watts for 2 plants. I dunno if that'll still be ok. I still have to buy a fan for the little place but other than that i'm hoping that all should be ok. What do you think? Oh yeah I was going to say when I water the plant in future how much should i water?

They look good. What type of lights you using?
20watt x 6 cool daylight cfl's. I wanna get some stronger ones but like I mentioned before I haven't got a lot of cash I could spend £30 ($60) tops on something. All the bulbs iand fitting i have are bayonet bulbs. see below

all the stronger watt ones i've seen are in the screw in ones, but are pretty expensive plus i'd have to buy a the fittings as well. If I could get both for under £30 i'd do it.
