How long before you give up on seeds....12 days and counting

Long story short....I soaked my seeds in distilled water for 14 hours and planted in rapid rooters surrounded by FFOF soil 12 days ago. Watered and kept the area at 78 degree temperature. Had to leave town for 6 days, so I left a small fluorescent light on the rapid rooters in case they sprouted. The medium did not dry out as I left the cups in a humidity dome while I was gone.

I planted two resilient strains (DNA Holy Grail Kush and Nirvana Northern lights). Watering with distilled water for now and some liquid kelp.....will go to RO soon.

How long before it’s time to autopsy these rapid rooters looking for rotten seeds? Is it to scrap the grow and start from scratch? Any advice appreciated.

I have taken a pick many times and moved the soil to see if there is a root. If I find a root I just cover it back up and water. I take a little file and scuff the seed surface before planting to break the shell a little for better absorption. Works almost every time.

I am amazed by some peoples effort but I am wondering its more harmful than good?

I have cracked hundreds of seed over the years, no scuffing, soaking, humidity, lights, nothing! I throw them in promix about an inch in. Water, and forget about them. 4 to 7 days later the little fellas pop up. Then I move them to the light and give them a little food and water. Id say rarely do i get one that doesn't sprout. I'm about 98% successful with a simple method. Even using seeds that are 4+ years old.

Are they soaking in a puddle of standing water? Id assume you have drain holes cut out of the cups? Probably too much with the bag and stagnant water.

I don't put them in till they root in the paper towels. After a week if they don't pop I get rid of them.

It’s ironic that my old thread has been resurrected exactly as I wait for 2 stubborn seeds to pop. It’s been 5 days using jiffy pellets. I think I will go with the paper towel method and then straight to coco on my next attempt.

Hey. Maybe my germination video will help. I’m a first time grower and my germination Method has sprouted every seed I placed using the Paper Towel Method.

What is that you are you growing them in. Im on my first time grow and my seeds never came out that good when they spouted, by day 10/11 there was only one set of leaves on and it just started growing lanky and no more sets of leaves like on the video. I ended up putting then in a small rockwool and put them under a 250watt light, it was only then that more leaves started growing. Id love to know what kind of medium is in the plastic cup if youve any idea please

A seed can literally fall out of a birds ass and sprout. No digging, paper towels, or glasses of water.

I actually planted them in jiffy pellets. After I had a sprout, I moved them to coco coir in solo cups. Note that coco coir is hydro growing.....you must feed differently using that medium. If you’re really interested in coco, check out www.cocoforcannabis.com.

This is what the seeds were planted in.

Usually I see sprouts in about 2-4 days in paper towel.
I have recently had a few slow pokes I kept moist over 3 weeks!
After a last ditch effort, I scuffed up the seam of the seed and they did pop.
Doing well now. Not ideal at all but I had the time and didn't want to give up on this strain.

If anything I’ve learned can help you i’m willing to share the wealth. I used fox farm soil mixed with root organic soil, perlite, and sat her under a 600w led lights. My first set of plants wasn’t developing as fast but now I believe I got it all figured out. Good luck!

Thanks very much mate. I do believe from what ive seen youve got it all right to make them grow like that in that short a time. I think its azaming to see how good the transformation is over the days, compared to lots of other videos ive seen.
I dont have LED lights and not sure if i could afford to buy them just yet mate. I did mine in a mini propagator which had 8 little lights at the top, yes they grew but went lanky and only managed to produce one set of leaves while in there, i used those Smart Start where you just drop them in, make a mixture of whatever it is they send with it and water and let the smart pots soak for 5 mins then put them in the propagator and leave them to do their stuff https://www.zamnesia.com/propagation/1100-smart-start.html.
Then i just put them in coco mixed with this https://www.zamnesia.com/blog-growcaps-grow-cannabis-easy-n1958
Got nothing like the results you get mate. I will have to look much much i can get a 600watt LED for.
Once again thank you for sharing and going to the trouble of helping.
Id say Good luck , but you dont need it ;)

It’s all trial and error. Believe me when I say I screwed up horribly during my first set of plants. I had a lot of issues with the plants because lack of proper setup and feeding. The led lights were $45 on amazon. I just copped my second one for my flower tent. I have one for veg and another in a tent for flower. I’m using both 2x2x4 tent and (4 inch inline/exhaust fan $25 each) clip on fan ($13) on the inside. Stay true and only apply what works for you. Every grower situation is different so I recommend routing a few seeds and playing around with them until you get the right formula to grow them. Thanks for sharing!!

Equipment
Comzler 600w led
Vivosun 4” Exhaust/Inline
Exhale CO2 bag small
Transfer from solo cup to 1 gallon
Ph water tester
Ph soil, moist, light tester
Ph up & down (in case your ph changes)
Fox farm trio pack
Fox farm soil /root organic
Perlite
Asómate (organic fertilizer volcano ash)

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. I was about to make a smart ass comment about your seeds finally popping after 3+ months, lol.

Thanks so much mate for all the help youve given me, it is seriously really appreciated. I have just been looking on Amazon at those LED lights and they are cheap arent they?. One thing i noticed is that you have exhale CO2 bag in your room, how much difference does that make cause the guys at the shop said it wouldnt be worth me buying it , but i think im going to invest in some.
Ive got an PH meter, a bluelab truncheon, but because the bending was hurting my back i got a trimeter , which also measures the temp of your water ive got this one https://onestopgrowshop.co.uk/products/nutradip-growboss-trimeter , which makes the job a lot more easier.
I am also growing in coco 60/40 and its working off a IWS feeding system which someone suggested using, and giving them 2 feeds a day (15 min feed each time) once after lights on, then approx a hour before lights out.
I think with the room being longer probably 8ft and 4ft wide the Led lights as good as they hard would probably not give off the heat the room needed to keep around the 24/25% mark which is a shame as i would like these, unless there is another way around it , putting heaters in and having them on constantly (money eaters though) and trying to keep cost down, at the moment there is 3 x 600watt HPS philips lamps in, all running at 400watt at the moment, as i have digital ballasts which were more expensive but are supposed to be better.
Id love to try in soil your way mate, cause im so impressed what ive seen, but i will leave it a bit till i learn a bit more like you said, just play around a bit and see which turns out to be easiest. I was going to use pebbles on flood and drain, but was told its not forgiving like in soil, and a couple of small mistakes could cost you dearly, but was cost if it was a bigger yield pebbles is the way to go, how true this is i do not know, im only quoting what ive either been told, or what ive read.
Youve been a great help mate and i have bookmarked the page so can come back to it.
Good luck (as if you need it lol)
