Best way to setup room with plaster walls?

Anyone have experience setting up a room with plaster walls? Does plaster mold easily? Has anyone had problems with plaster leeching chemicals in the environment? I was thinking just slap up some panda and call it a day. Never built a room with plaster walls and dont want to damage it beyond repair.

Plaster walls are actually pretty mold resistant as the plaster itself doesnt harbor mold. It is still relatively susceptible to water damage though so I would probably still paint the whole room with a good sealer and put film over that. Dont want moisture trapped between the film and unsealed walls.

plaster ? never tried it ...me I would go buy some osb sheets from loews /home depot same stuff they sheet roofs with frame out my walls with 2x3s or 2x4s and wrap the inside with white plastic and call it a day

Plaster board or skimmed or lime plaster?

Either way just seal it properly and your good to go.
Yup.
I’m imagining him talking about old wood lath and plaster. As a drywall lather by trade and one who builds allot of growrooms over the years I can also safely say that it’s all good. Although I like putting white/black poly up on the walls he’s most likely going to only be able to paint the walls white as stapling into plaster is a no go lol.

Yeah i didnt think about that part lol.
Some good mounting tape could probably get the job done with minimal damage. Might take the paint off on removal.

I'm in the same sort of situation as the OP. Also my first time setting up a grow. I have rooms with plaster walls, definitely old wood lath and plaster here, lots of exterior walls involved in the rooms I'd like to use. 8ft ceilings in some 9ft in others, ~ 8x9, 8x10, 9x10 in an aged house. My first plan was to frame with 2x4s and make plastic tents in the interior of rooms with walkways all around, but now I'm trying to save money and gain space by looking at plastic walling off walkways by the exterior facing surfaces only, with panda film and 2x4framing. After reading about plaster in this tread I want to check to make sure I'm making wise decisions and look for additional advice? In my mind I'm mostly trying to avoid condensation and trapped water problems.

I'm in Missouri and see all varieties of temp and humidity extremes.

I'd like to do large plants.

Doing LEDs too so might be a bit higher humidity, not sure how much that needs to play into room design?

Plaster cracks with big temperature swings. Preserve by simple climate control. Painting plaster is neither here nor there. There is likly plenty of lead paint on the walls all ready to kill mold, unless there is paper. Oil primer then Flat Pure White like HomeDepo Bear Pure White tint base, not ever a one coat cover paint nor ceiling white all have black in it. I'm a plasterer and a painter

Why do you need panda film for other than openings. Flat paint reflects better, just giving choices. WTF is not being nice, its being other wise.

Lmfao I was getting all pissed cause I thought people where encouraging him to build a room from scratch with plaster not that he already had plaster walls he needs to cover lol I had to erase my other post ....i had to read post 2x SMDH fucking high

My big concern is condensation appearing on exterior facing walls when i get around or above ~65% RH at 79-81F. I feel like I probably need to seal those walls off with warm but drier airspace/walkways made with panda film or similar material unless I'm missing a better option? There's quite a bit of air flow already though I could aim fans at the walls more, I'm trying that next, but am pretty certain I need an airspace barrier on my coldest walls to prevent thermal shocking the humidity out of the air? It's a close call in my mind, the addled mind of a first timer. The VPD charts make me think I'll want to do 60-65% rh in early veg at 79-81F (LEDs). I'm seeing minimal maybe no condensation until I get to ~65% or over and its been cold lately but it can get a fair bit colder, feels boarder-line but I have no real idea practically.

I've got a pretty solid layer of light colored paint on the plaster already, I may add eggshell white to it as I setup rooms.

I too love gorilla tape, nice to hear it works for taping the films to plaster.

I'll be careful with temperature swing to prevent cracks, thanks for that tip!

In your situation, with everything considered and your concerns I would just put the biggest tent you can fit in there and control the inside of the tent.

Lot of pro's in here helping out, thanks everybody!

That sort of talk has me back to being sold on tents at least for veg.

I'm still hoping I can get away with flowering RH just sectioning off exterior walls, 55-60%RH ~80-82F?

@Renfro, What sort of RH% did that? Do you think 65% risks that?

Until I get tents framed and up, I may try to run at whatever RH is in the safety zone for plaster. Opinions on what that would be?
