Any pointers to growing 1 lb plants?

On a different forum, this old timer was growing in those plastic "kiddie pools" and he had it installed on some sort of swivel and he would constantly rotate the plants depending on which direction the sun was facing. His yields were insane, 4.2 lbs off of a single plant.

I will be growing my plants in 20 gallon smart pots. My base mix will be as follows: 1/3 spagnum peat, ewc, and lava rock. I was also told to use mulch or straw to retain water. I will be using glacial rock dust for minerals, as well as spraying roots with myco. I have heard good things about malted barley for increased terpene production. I will be mixing an all purpose fertilizer in with my soil (5-5-5) I was told for simplicities sake as a beginner this soil mix would only require water and no teas/topdressing later on. I should also mention I am not able to veg indoors as I do not have the room in my house to do so. I will have to start from seed outdoors. :(

I live in the southern US. humidity can be high here and temperatures can average 80-95 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.

If anyone thinks 20 gallon smart pots with that soil mix could yield close to a pound or more a plant I would greatly appreciate your feedback and any other tips.

Consider growing more, smaller autos. You end up with a variety which is nice during the long winter days. The same old stuff get's old after a while and variety is the spice of life.

Tdub had some killer kiddie pool grows on here. They are too far back for me to search for though.

I use kiddie pools to grow tomatoes and peppers in. 45-50 gallon pot for 5 bucks [if you catch them when wally world marks them down at the end of summer].

How did you make out with just the 5-5-5 ammended in there mid flower? Any good?

Start several plants inside in 5 gallon containers under the proper light and timing. Dig big ass holes in the ground in an area that gets plenty of sunlight and has a breeze and/or good morning light.
Make sure the roots have room to roam ( plenty of easy to penetrate broken up soil) add perlite if the natural soil is too fine. I disperse timed release ferts and water retaining crystals throughout the hole. Keyword = "disperse". Simple and it works.

If you're going organic, find soil that worms are thriving in. Worms are your friends.

When you put your ladies outside for good and you want bigguns, it helps if they're already 3 - 4 feet tall and branchy.

Tie her down. Stake those branches horizontal early before they get woody if you can. Make the plant auxins your bitch.

I Add worm casting ,old compost cow manure and peat moss/perlite bags in this order 10/15%,20%/70% ,then add Gaia green 4-4-4/2-8-4@85/15% ..3tbsp a gal .. that’s there veg bed

I gotta remove a few more trees around those two smaller (50-100 gal) holes tho.. and I’m lacking morning light a wee bit you guys think that will hold them back from blowing up? Sun comes up like 8 er so and I only got a bit of glare through the tree line until 11:30 ish then I get full light from then on rite thru til 8pm er however long the day lasts

A half pound plant in a 3 gallon pot would be devastating to have to water every day/twice a day at the end wouldn’t you think? I wouldn’t wanna hafto do that myself.. but thanks to ppl like you I can actually see real life pictures of rediculous things like this actually working out lol

Guess that’s why you called it an experiment right..? I’ve grown a purple kush plant in a 5gal tall bucket a few years back..and got about 60 grams.. it grew to be about 3.5 ft.. 5 with the bucket and it wasn’t topped it grew like a tree. I didn’t go back and water it half as much as I should of I jus didn’t have the time boys.. IMO it’s a waste of time to do outdoor plants in anything smaller than a 10 probly 15 gal pot cuz it’s gonna dry out daily an need a lot of manpower to keep it going

I use 3 gallons and 5 gallons water every day or every other day in smart pots, most my plants are in this weight range. Don’t know Anything devestating about it.

I've used three gallon pots for a very long time, and consistently harvest 3/4lb+ plants from them. The plants only need to be fed every second day.
