Low Soil PH HELP!

Now this is getting frustrating...

I've managed to get some PH up from a friend..pH 11.5...(I tested with pH meter first)

I added a small bit to my 50 gal manure compost tea...and guess what..the F'n pH dropped again...

Down to 4.5

Is there some screwy buffering thing that goes on that I have to overcome with a certain volume of pH up or something..?

Hi Toad,

Curiousity got the better of me and I searched out a bit.
It's suggested as a water softener. It removes / locks up calcium and magnesium in the water. (Edit - hydrated lime)
That may be why the ph is reading low. It's essentially doing the opposite thing to garden lime if I'm not mistaken, by removing carbonate hardness.
