Hydroxychloroquine, yes I would take it, or fuck Trump?

Would you take hydroxychloroquine to fight Covid 19?

Like a true con man, he is already hyping up the next fad, blood transfusions or whatever he is reading on forums like these.
The difference is plasma transfusions work and there are multiple studies on it now, but this time those studies are more to confirm what is already known. Don't fall into the trap of attacking ideas because Donald is grasping at straws and people are trying to give him sensible solutions. I've made some posts on the public health thread about this, you should read them. This idea needs virus and serological testing to work, but we have a huge blood supply and plasma making infrastructure in place now. If properly rolled out and implemented it could lower the mortality rate to flu like levels and reduce the need for mechanical ventilation dramatically.

I'm glad he's latched onto a workable idea with a good existing evidence base at least, reduce the risk and fear of mortality and you open up the economy quicker. Read the preliminary study, they treated five patients on ventilators and the success rate was 5 for 5, not bad at all. Scalable, doable and there would be no shortage of plasma volunteers. You'd better push for this because the billionaires are already bleeding people for themselves and will be eager to reopen when they figure they are safe, better get some for yourself.

Aren't you being premature in saying this?
One preliminary study on covid-19, 5 for 5 on ventilators survived and it has been used in a variety of viral infections with a great deal of success. There are several ongoing clinical trials right now, including in Canada to determine dosing and efficacy, results should be starting to come in soon. You just need reliable serological testing, not even complete viral clearance is really required since they are treating an infected patient, but they will probably require it anyway. People are looking for plasma volunteers on facebook right now for family members and the FDA allows the procedure, it works apparently.

I'm looking ahead a month foggy, for this and remdesivir, plasma transfusions can leverage the existing large scale blood bank networks and they already filter plasma by the barrel too. Remdesivir had a small scale monkey trial with controls and the results were 100% effective, likewise the leaked clinical trials on humans were equally impressive, but with no control sample. The study data has been "locked" and that indicates they are working over the data and getting ready to read out the results. I'm cautiously optimistic to say the least, but the studies will have the final say.

I'm fascinated by the possible implications of both treatment options and if used in combination I believe they might be able to save even the most vulnerable. With proper NPIs, testing, contact tracing and isolation of the infected, I figure we've got a shot at opening things up a bit and cutting the mortality rate and hospital requirements dramatically at the same time. I see a way out of this looming disaster foggy, for both of our counties and even the world, a way to get to a vaccine or ethical herd immunity.

This is not evidence its anecdotal, but considering the past experience with other viral infections and these ongoing clinical trials, I'm optimistic about the clinical trials that are being used to determine efficacy, treatment timing and dosages (apparently 2 people might be treated from a single donation). All the professionals are optimistic about this one and there are many clinical trials underway now, but they are mostly an excuse to roll out the therapy in my opinion, since there are about the same ethical considerations with this treatment as giving regular plasma to patients. Have a read, its a feel good story anyway! :D

Thought so.

It's true that plasma transfusions are likely to prove useful in treating covid patients, just as they have for more than 100 years ago for other viral diseases.. But, that's not what you said earlier. Really dude, your earlier statement is simply not true at this time: "The difference is plasma transfusions work and there are multiple studies on it now, "

Ok, guilty of excessive optimism, should have said could work, my bad.

More deaths, no benefit from malaria drug in VA virus study

A malaria drug widely touted by President Donald Trump for treating the new coronavirus showed no benefit in a large analysis of its use in U.S. veterans hospitals. There were more deaths among those given hydroxychloroquine versus standard care, researchers reported.

The nationwide study was not a rigorous experiment. But with 368 patients, it’s the largest look so far of hydroxychloroquine with or without the antibiotic azithromycin for COVID-19, which has killed more than 171,000 people as of Tuesday.

The study was posted on an online site for researchers and has not been reviewed by other scientists. Grants from the National Institutes of Health and the University of Virginia paid for the work.

Researchers analyzed medical records of 368 male veterans hospitalized with confirmed coronavirus infection at Veterans Health Administration medical centers who died or were discharged by April 11.

About 28% who were given hydroxychloroquine plus usual care died, versus 11% of those getting routine care alone. About 22% of those getting the drug plus azithromycin died too, but the difference between that group and usual care was not considered large enough to rule out other factors that could have affected survival.

Hydroxychloroquine made no difference in the need for a breathing machine, either.

Researchers did not track side effects, but noted a hint that hydroxychloroquine might have damaged other organs. The drug has long been known to have potentially serious side effects, including altering the heartbeat in a way that could lead to sudden death.

Full Coverage: Understanding the Outbreak
Earlier this month, scientists in Brazil stopped part of a study testing chloroquine, an older drug similar to hydroxychloroquine, after heart rhythm problems developed in one-quarter of people given the higher of two doses being tested.

On Tuesday, NIH issued new treatment guidelines from a panel of experts, saying there was not enough evidence to recommend for or against chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19. But it also advised against using hydroxychloroquine with azithromycin because of the potential side effects.

Many doctors have been leery of the drug.

At the University of Wisconsin, Madison, “I think we’re all rather underwhelmed” at what’s been seen among the few patients there who’ve tried it, said Dr. Nasia Safdar, medical director of infection control and prevention.

Patients asked about it soon after Trump started promoting its use, “but now I think that people have realized we don’t know if it works or not” and needs more study, said Safdar, who had no role in the VA analysis.

The NIH and others have more rigorous tests underway.

Despite risks, Trump says he’s taking hydroxychloroquine

"President Donald Trump said he is taking a malaria drug to protect against the coronavirus, despite warnings from his own government that it should only be administered for COVID-19 in a hospital or research setting due to potentially fatal side effects.

Trump told reporters Monday he has been taking the drug, hydroxychloroquine, and a zinc supplement daily “for about a week and a half now.” Trump spent weeks pushing the drug as a potential cure or prophylaxis for COVID-19 against the cautionary advice of many of his administration’s top medical professionals. The drug has the potential to cause significant side effects in some patients and has not been shown to combat the new coronavirus."

So Trump just says something then leftist scumbags say the truth is the opposite and then you find out in the end that the United States Government with the highest funded doctors in the world give the medication to the President. It's almost like every single person who doubted god emperor always get proven wrong. He's driven your side crazy and you will see in November when he landslides the election. Your side is so fucking far off track it's amazing. All the media coverage benefits your side but it has driven people away and towards Trump. Now the corona is going away and America gets to watch democrat governors attempt to keep it closed as long as they can. Too damn funny. I'll never make another account here if Trump doesn't win the election with 60% of the vote. - WORDZ
