I can get this LED light tomorrow, used(1 yr old), for $180. it retails for $595 and has good reviews from what i see

imo yes. a 4x4 and about 480w true power draw of LED. how hot does the garage get? with LED and exhausting out a window you can pretty much keep a tent at the same temperature as the room its in even while lights are running. If you exhaust back into the garage eventually the lights will heat all the air in the room and the temps will rise. you would probably only need the AC with recirculating exhaust if the garage gets above 83-85F. Otherwise running exhaust direct to outdoors would be fine.

I have a few tents in my house and I keep them exhausting directly out a window as often as I can. when it gets really hot I close the windows, run the house AC and let the tents exhaust circulate in the house like you said, and the power bill goes way up.

yes. LED are pretty expensive. $300 could be done but it would be DIY, def not anything good ready to hang at that price.

i'm starting to see that now...so i think i'm going with the HID option. but if i get a work bonus anytime soon, i'm getting a good quantum board. so would those HID lights be too hot for that , or would the venting be enough to keep it in check?

what if i used HID lights instead? would that same setup work?

yes it would. HID lights are a bit less efficient than good LEDs so more of the watts will be converted to heat instead of light. meaning the tent will be a few degrees hotter than the room it is in even if you're exhausting out a window. With HID you would want 600w in a 4x4, and depending on the temp of your garage you may be running the AC more often.

They put out more heat than LED, but you can use vented hoods and exhaust it outside. @Renfro is the one I'd ask about that. I don't use HID, except I have a couple CMH lights.

Yes that would work too. Alibaba is essentially just like amazon. Chinese factories making copies of popular grow lights. In this case the HLG 550. People use these and like them. I liken them more to replicas and bootlegs than knockoffs since they do seem to use legit diodes and drivers. I guess its up to you how you feel about that kind of thing.

when i click on the alibaba link, it has options for emitting colors....whats the deal with that? what is the difference between the 3 (lm301h 3000K,3500k,4000k)? and how would you keep the light cool? by venting and fans?

Those are different "colors" of white light. 3000k being warm, orangeish white light and 4000k being cool blueish white light. Many people would say that warm light increases yield and cool light increases quality. I think you'd have similar results with all three options.

The only thing you'd need to do to keep the tent the same temperature as the garage is use an exhaust fan that removes all the air from the tent once every minute or so. Cool air would be taken in from the passive intakes on the tent. The average 4x4 tent is around 120 cubic feet. So quality 6" inline fans (usually ~400 cubic feet per minute) are great even running at half power.

i already have a 6"fan with 460cfm and a 6" carbon filter. and how big should intake hole be? and should i screen it as to try and keep out pests?

the new mars ts range are a good cheap starter led.

idk what country your in but ive gotten most of my lights from diyleduk, worth looking at for some ideas.

3000K - Better for flowering
3500K - Better for full cycle
4000K - Better for vegging
