@raratt is correct, the cutting stems should be submerged in water (with a little pool shock or perhaps h2o2 to avoid contaminants) as soon as they are cut. It would be super simple to take a bunch of cuttings in a cup of water to your sister's place. My backup cuttings have been in this cup for over a week, still looking okay as the pool shock keeps 'em fresh...
