Big indoor Auto Grow

I think @wil2279 covered most of it, especially #3 referencing cloning and consistency as a production requirement. Growing from seeds tends to have consistency issues in general when compared with clones, but auto hybrids are bred from three sources (with the addition of ruderalis in the mix) and I've had unbelievable variation between plants that came from seeds from the same packet. I guess a lot of seeds are rushed to market these days, but it seems like when your phenos can lean more towards ruderalis or more towards photo spectrums, that adds a whole other set of variables to the equation.

The only thing I would add is that from what I've seen, large scale/commercial growers are also relying on "bag appeal", and the autos I've grown (mostly Mephisto), while frosty and potent, don't have anything close to the bud density of photos. For me the 'larfy' buds are a benefit not a problem, because I grow them outdoors and they are less likely to get moldy with more open bud structures, but commercially it seems like people are stuck on dense buds being synonymous with quality.
I have heard that in the future we may see autos with enough unifomity for commercial grows. We will see... autos will only going to get better from here.

Biggest reason is not as potent. Also auto's aren't cheap you can't clone them or do anything but grow them out once. So if you want to drop a few hundred on seeds every few months for worse weed have at it. More plants doesn't equal more weed. Also very few autos will actually finish that fast you are still looking at a full photo flower cycle from start to finish for a lot of them.

I have grown autos and photos... saying autos are inferior is just a dumb statement. I am not able to tell the difference between autos and photos. Furthermore, if you buy a bottle of STS, you can make hundreds or thousands of seeds... and they take up less room and require far less attention than clones and mother plants. You don't have to feed them, water them, or run a light to keep them alive. They are seeds... and yes some autos will run longer than 10-12 weeks but they are much less likely to hermi... are less sensitive to light leaks, and you can start new plants under the same light at the same time other plants are flowering... so let's not act like autos are just for dummies.
They have a lot of benefits that close minded people don't realize.

Wow, you must be growing those 50% THC photos, cause Mephisto has had CUSTOMERS submit tests 20, 22, 23, 27 and even 29% THC in their autos. It's good, we won't judge but you definitely don't smoke weed if 29% isn't good enough. Man rides the White to be saying stupid shit like this.

Better to spend that same few hundred on nutrients, and electricity i guess? And very few autos will finish that fast? Most autos will finish between 8-12 weeks. If you have good genetics the exceptions are not that common.

This is just another ashamed man that can't ask for help. Easier to bait guys into feeling like we should help change his mind by spewing shit on autos than ask. If these guys REALLY thought autos were that inferior than they would not waste time posting about them. But they do. Rather than man up and ask they know they will irritate people that are good at growing them and get answers anyway out of frustration. I say just stop answering these guys.

Stick around... I'm working on getting a new grow space and I'm hoping in the spring to do s 5x5 grow full of autos... at least 9 - 12 of them.
Be sure you get smaller autos. Even topped once, a lot of autos will will reach 40 inches (100cm) and have a shape like a similarly sized photo so jamming that many into a 5x5 isn't realistic. It's not like you can do a sea of green by limiting veg time.

But you still can limit height/overall size by pot size.

That's marginally true, but why grow more small plants when you can get the same or better results with a few larger ones? Last auto grow I did in a 5x5 was Mephisto Alien v Triangle, and 4 plants topped once yielded roughly 28 ounces dry. I might have been able to squeeze 1 or 2 more into the tent, but I prefer more air flow to fighting PM or growing a tent full of larf on light deprived lower branches.

I think that's a pretty clear answer. More strain variety and if you lose 3 of 9 you still get yeild. If you lose 2 of 4, well you lose more. Myslef i like to grow more smaller plants for those reasons. I can get 2oz every time in a 2 liter pop bottle of coco. Some guys get way more in the same space. 2 gal of coco at 4 plants will get me 8 oz. How many guys can say their 5 gals of soil are going to yeild that much let alone a 2 gal. More smaller plants comes with more maintenance, but it provides variety and morr importantly safety.

To each his/her own. If you ever want to discuss growing techniques we can take it to a conversation, but I can honestly tell you that other than non germinating seeds, or seedlings that died in the first week, I don't lose plants in the flower tent.

Not everyone is you though. Not sure how you can assume that everyone has that success. There are higher chances that any one person runs into whatever problems than having zero problems and a perfect grow.

You know weed comes with higher then 29% THC right? Proving my point autos are LESS potent. Sorry you like shitty weed.

Lol if you lose plants past germination you need to figure out your issue.

Exactly how is this helpful? These discussions would be shorter and more useful, especially for newbies, if we all tried to stay off our soapboxes and simply calmly discussed the factual issues
