Black trichomes?

I would say it's OK. Hard to tell if those are trichs or bug poop but amber ones can go really dark. Lots look clear tho but I find a few ambers when all the rest are clear too.

I sure as hell wouldn't toss it out.

Have a Merry Xmas!

It is really dry shit, so I am wondering if that plays a role in "aging" it? Maybe the age of it plays a role in the color of the trichomes? Kind of new to this.

Also, no idea how old this stuff is either haha.

Merry Christmas to you as well! Thank you for your reply.

Die? I have 6yo bud sitting here and the trichs are still milky/amber. Might be some black ones in there but I haven't really looked that close. May have to dig out my 1000x USB scope and take a closer look.

Trichomes dont continue to degrade after you cut them

Im trying to find evidence and it appears to be bro science and im wrong

In that you're dead wrong. I always harvest about 50/50 clear/milky with nary an amber to be found. In the 2002 Jorge Cervantes grow bible I've had for 15 years at least he says that's the peak THC. Amber indicates the THC is breaking down to CBN which is the sleepy time cannabinoid and gives it that body stone and couch-lock buzz.

I just took a look with my 30X scope at some NL#5 x Kali Mist that's at least 5 years old and the trichs are all a very dark amber. Early on it was a very uplifting, speedy kind of buzz but now it's one I like a hit of just before bed. I hardly ever get amber when the plants are still in the pots even when they are weeks past their due date. It makes no sense to me to burn more power and tie up the grow room waiting for amber when I know it will happen later.

I also harvest in stages. Take off all the big top colas at 50/50, about a 3rd of the plant, then let the lower buds fatten up more and get riper as almost all trichs on those are clear and sparkly still. 10 - 14 days is good enough then it all comes down. I do not flush either as they need some nutes in there to finish up properly.

You must have some well-aged bud stashed away. Get a good look at the trichs on that.

Anyways, hoping your Xmas is as great as it can be this f'ed up holiday season!

Try smoking the heavily seeded old Mexican brick weed I cut my teeth with back in the day. Can you say exploding cigar? I knew you could! :D

I almost exclusively smoke my own bud so never run into those odd smells of which you speak.

What's life without a few surprises tho eh. ;)

Merry Xmas!

If you missed a hollow seed in a pinner of that old time brick weed it was like the little exploding prank inserts for cigarettes. Scare the hell out of you.

OK. This whole trichome aging thing had me getting my USB scope out and the drivers installed as I hadn't done that since getting a Win10 rig. I forgot that when I got it I went thru all the settings and turned off anything that talks to me or Micro$oft. That included access to the mic or camera. DOH! Got it going tho and mounted the scope on the tripod and took some pics.

I filed the light little base for the camera to fit in the locking bracket on the tripod so I can set it up at the edge of my desk and just crank it up and down to set the focus and it holds real still while I snap the pic.

This is the NL x Kali I mentioned about 5 - 6 years old. Sativa dominant so I know I picked that at 50/50.

NLxKali6years.jpg

OG#18 from June 2017 so 2 1/2 years old. Lots of amber going on there but 50/50 when chopped.

OG#18June2017.jpg

The AK47 from Feb. 2019 so just a couple months shy of 2 years. I had to pick these a bit early because of a mite invasion.
Not a lot of amber going on here.

AK47Feb2019.jpg

Island Sweet Skunk x DJ Short's Blueberry from Oct. last year so just over a year old. A few ambers here and there.

ISSxDJSBBOct2019.jpg

Sugar Black Rose, Early Edition my buddy cropped just last Apr so 8 months old. A few amber.

SugarBlackRoseApr2020.jpg

Last but not least Monkey Banana Kush grown from cuttings I got from the above mentioned buddy.
Just chopped Dec. 8 so less than a month old. Barely an amber to be seen.

I know this is a small sample size but I didn't cherry-pick the shots. Not definitive proof but sure indicates a trend I think. Was fun playing with the scope again and I think I'm going to catalogue my seeds.

Here's some Double Ought Cherry CBD by Sebring Seeds I got about 6 months ago and will be planting 5 tonight among others.

Actually it's the ripe ones that explode. They have moisture in there so when the heat hits them it boils inside until the shell explodes like a kernel of popcorn. You can actually cook them like popcorn to make a healthy snack. Used to be able to buy them. Harder than popcorn tho.

Amazing pictures.
Thanks but it's more the camera than the photographer getting the shots.

The thing has this crappy little base and no real focus. You can buy a crappy little microscope unit for it with some up and down but I have good tripod so wtf. It has a plate on top that you screw onto the bottom of a camera then snap it in. I just had to use the bench grinder a bit to get the round base to fit a square hole. :)

It has a little wifi base I can plug into my android phone so I can go down to the grow room and get shots down there. Highest rez tho is 640x480 but the ones I just posted are that too so not bad.

I got some macro tubes for my Canon AE-1 35mm film camera so want to experiment with classy looking close-ups of buds and such. I was always too paranoid to take pics then have to drop the film off at the drug store so now that pot is legal who gives a shit eh. lol

I've played around with photography since I was a kid and have small assortment of lenses, filters, zoom flash unit etc etc. I have 2 of those Canons and years ago used to develop my own film and make prints up to poster size. Lot of work that so I sold it all 40 years ago.
