I believe that people must EARN respect. I don't respect anyone at all until I've gotten to know they are worth it. Maybe that's a sad state of affairs, but unfortunately it's necessary. At work I won't even learn a persons name until they've been there for 3 months. In my experience most people are lazy good for nothings and until they prove otherwise I don't bother with them.
