Marbles

I am currently dealing with a minor gnat infestation. I’ve heard to put perlite or washed play sand over the soil so the gnats can no longer breed which will kill them all. My kids have a bunch of marbles, I’m talking buckets, that have been past down through the family. I was wondering if I could just top dressed soil with the marbles in order to solve my problem. Any ideas?

I don't think they will seal the top layer.
I just make a drench using mosquito dunks with BT as a biological deterrent.

Might be pretty, but I don't believe it would block gnats. I top with fine perlite. No issues.

It kind of defeats the purpose. Might as well just fill with sand, but I like the thinking
