Fringe benefits of buying from a dispensary

Aside from it being a near lifelong dream to have my own plants(that has come true! Holy shit!!). I started growing because of the money the wife and I were dropping at a dispensary was kinda nuts. I've got the beginnings of what I would call a good stash but still every now and then I want something different, something I didn't grow. So we will stop off and get a couple stains to try and occasionally we will get little nuggets of gold in these buds. Today we got 16 little wedding cake possibilities.

Not typically if it were an everytime issue we would pick another one, I think we have like 30 dispensaries

Still, I'm not sure I would necessarily consider those to be gold nuggets. More like raffle tickets with a possible prize or also potential disappointment. Problem is you only know one of the parents (the strain you found the seed in), so it could either be a S1 of that strain, or a hybrid of that an a mystery strain that was growing in the same room. More importantly the seed is likely the result of a herm in the room, which means that the genetics are predisposed to potentially pass on that herm trait.

I'd agree, as cool as free seeds may be the genetics are probably sub par. Even if you don't want a refund id let the dispensary know they've got seedy weed in stock

I'd rather pay the cash for seeds of known provenance than spend 3 months growing and have them pollenate everything, ruin the next batch.
Something caused that, a male in a flower room at a commercial grow is very unlikely. Hunting nanners for the last month sounds like hell.

All good points, but my answer would be, it depends on your situation and how good was that wedding cake? If you don't mind hunting for intersex issues throughout flower or possibly picking a few seeds out of your bud and you're just growing for personal like me, go right ahead.

I used to love popping a random found seed from time to time. Just for the hunt. I've gotten some enjoyable smoke, as well. A barry white bagseed is still one of the frostiest plants I've grown.

Nowadays, though, with the collection of seeds I have purchased or been gifted, it would have to be something amazing to jump that line.

I've heard this said a lot and I believe it to be true, but I had a different experience. Keep in mind that this was a one time thing, and I probably got lucky.

Several years ago, I had a few different strains going in my big flowering room - 2 Blueberry Kush, 2 White Widow, and 6 GG#4. I got the Widow cut from a friend, and it was my first time running it. Turned out to be herm - not bad, just a few nanners, so I let it ride. Trimmed all of them up and found a total of 1 seed hiding out in the GG. Beautiful, tiger striped little thing. Germed it, grew it, took cuts, then sent it into flower. It never hermed and turned out to be my most popular strain. Four to six per plant, frost and resin coated, and it gets blue and purple hues during the cooler months.

There are rewards to be found in bagseed for sure. Isn’t the whole story behind chemdawg is that it’s from bag seed from a grateful dead concert?

I’ve got 2 beans from some Blue apricot sherbert that are in veg right now. Came from some of the best smelling bud I’ve ever come across.

Yeah, like I said initially, it's like a raffle ticket.. you might get something great, but you're more likely to be left mildly disappointed.
