This last year, I’ve watched a TON of anime, and never enjoyed it more.
Like many, I ‘started’ with Ghost in the Shell, Akita, Princess Mononoke/Miyazaki, moved on the Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, Paranoia Agent...but I asked some friends for recommendations, which led me to Sword Art Online, and that sank the hooks in deep. It’s the only anime I’ve watched in full several times.
After that, I watched pretty much ALL the anime on Netflix; my brother clued me in on the Amazon Prime offerings - but for streaming, Hulu rules.
Favorite titles so far include High School DxD (ruined it in the 4th season, but...), Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon (1, 2, 3, and Sword Oratorio), Beatless, Claymore, Grimoire of Zero, Knights of Sidonia, Last Hope, Revisions, Re:Creators, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Senpai, Elden Lied, Akame Ga Kill, Kill Ia Kill (utterly mad, but hella fun), Attack on Titan, RWBY, Seven Deadly Sins...to mention just a few.
Shit, I’ve watched so much, I’m having trouble remembering the ones I liked best...should have been accumulating a favorites list from the beginning. A lot of amazing storytelling - so much, it’s boggling.
Currently clanking my way through Full Metal Panic
