Sprouting indoor or outdoor

I’ve always been curious if it’s better to let them sprout indoors then put them outdoors when there alittle stronger or if it’s okay to let them sprout outdoors. Is the sun to intense for a fresh seedling?

You can do either.

I popped mine three days ago. They’ll stay indoors under 3 54w fluorescent bulbs in 4’ Sun Blaze fixtures. Next month they’ll go out to my greenhouse with supplemental AM and PM light and the sun during the day. Sometime after Mother’s Day they’ll go out in my raised beds.

I am somewhat tired of trying to outrun the first frost. My plants will get germinated in 2 weeks. That will give them 4 weeks inside before they go to the greenhouse. Then most of them will go outside. I am going to try two auto's this season and leave one inside the greenhouse all season with the other on a deck in 5 gallon cloth bags. My other 2 plants will be White Widow fems. One in the ground, one in a pot. That is the plan so far but likely to change. I am not sure that they would reach full maturity if I seeded them in the ground where they would grow before frost.

You can sprout seeds directly outside, I've done it with no problem.
As to whether it is better to start indoors and then move them outside, or start them outside, that would depend on your timing and climate.

Be careful, small containers dry out quickly when placed outside, if you like to start in solo cups, for example, you may want to check the moisture a couple of times each day on a warm day.

I guess it depends on how far north you are when you should plant outside. My fem. plants I know I start late March to get them in the greenhouse by May 1st. as I have done last 2 years. My concern is planting the Auto's too early. I read about how fast they grow etc. and I wonder if 4 weeks inside is too early. Inside they are under regular grow lamps. See attachment

im in Central Oregon on the Oregon/Washington border. June 1 we are at 15 hours 30 minutes of daylight. I’ve got a KIND LED in my greenhouse. If I need to get them more light I can move them in and out of the greenhouse.
ive been growing for 15+ years but this is my first go at autos.

I’ve always started them inside but never bothered buying a light for seedlings. The window sill has always worked fine for me. Put em outside for a few hours a day when they're about 8 inches to a foot tall and they really take off .
