Ants

So I have ants.
I grow in a converted garage so when it warms up every year I see a ant here and there, this usually lasts a week or 2 and they disappear on their own
Same thing this year except I just gave my plants a thorough pre flower flush and I noticed a shitload of ants come out of my runoff water.
I'm growing in smart pots so I don't know if they were coming out through the top or underneath the pots or what, but in talking hundreds of small black ants.
What can they be living off of? I'm growing in coco, not organic but am using some roots accelerator and floralicious.
If they are in the medium how can I kill them without killing the plant? Or really should I even worry about them?
Never had this issue before

And do what with it?
Topdress with it. I've also used it in a tray with a riser in it acting as a moat of sorts, did this when I was feeding Molasses which I feared would attract them. They will not cross it because it cuts there bodies up and will kill them, also works for other critters as well.

Mix borax and sugar in equal amounts. Leave it where they can get it. They take it to the nest, everyone eats it and explodes. Non-toxic.

Borax- the box soap,
Sugar - the white
1/2 and 1/2 mix with
Water to just past paste.
Cotton balls.
Soak above said shit.
Place in ant trails or of the ants.
Takes time but worked for me
They haven’t been back.

Thanks people, I will pursue all of the above. I've had mites, aphids, whatever, never even considered ants

Aphids will attract ants. Ants herd aphids like cattle to get the honeydew they produce because it's sweet. That same honeydew can turn to black mold. Spread diatomaceous earth lightly on top of the soil. It's sharp and damages their shell when walking across it. Death follows shortly. I'm a 'seedling' (newbie) when it comes to growing weed, but I learned this from growing tomatoes in the garden outdoors. Good luck.
