As for ur grow , I think im gonna finally give in and go buy some of those cfls and get rid of these bulky tube type fluoros.

all is looking about the same. i gave them a few hours of the 400mh today. maybe take the cfl's down sunday and let them have the 400 full time. what's everyones thought on this?

today i took the cfl's down and moved the girls about 18 inches under a 400mh, temps are staying in the mid 70's. no streching and they are getting fat.

kevin-33499-albums-fun-picture20491-future-vegging-corner.jpg

i've always pictured this as a vegging corner. to damn hot during the summer to try a 365 day operation

heading to the hydro shop to get some vegging nutes today. i've already have fox farms tiger bloom and big bloom. i'm going to pick up some grow big. speak up if you can think of anything else.

try fox farm open sesame, beastie bloomz and cha ching, superthrive is good to have on hand i use fox farm 3 pak myself and i also use hydroguard, sensizyme by advance nutes, roots by humbolt.i also keep a bottle of cal-mag around too. u might consider trying fox farm ocean forrest when ever you transplant and only use a 1/4 of the recomended strength of the nutes so u dont burn them good luck peace

i went to the store thinking i was only going to buy 1 bottle of nutes, well they had this bad ass ph meter that i had to have. especially after i killed my last grow with ph problems. i also stopped by the pet store and bought 4 pounds of carbon. going to build my own air cleaning system. check this link out. Safe Room Squirrel Cage Fan
i'm going to build it using this basic design. i'll post pics later

after playing with my ph meter, i'm sitting here wondering how i got my first plant to grow at all. to start with i was getting the water ph'd to 6.5 then adding the nutes and feeding. so the ph was down in the high 4's....and i got a couple of ounces of fruit off her. i'm excited to see what it does with the proper ph. i tested the water that came out of the bottom of the pot, it measured straight up 7. a bit high, but i think after a few waterings it should go down. didn't even mess with my air cleaner. got stoned and played with my new toy. :peace:

last night i feed them some grow big mixed at 1/4 strength. no nutes in the soil. tonight i get home and i see yellowing on the plants big time. after a bunch of reading i'm thinking to much light. since the yellowing was at the top of the plant. i lowered the girls 12" or so away from the light. giving it some thought about changing lighting from 24/0 to 18/6. give them a break from the light?

what do you all think?

thanks kevin

I do my veg stage on a 24/0 schedule under 600w HPS from the time my seeds sprout. The idea that the plants need "rest" is not correct, even though some would argue that. Plants are not like other organisms that need a period of rest to recuperate and maintain optimum health and vigor. Basically, the rate of growth is directly attributed to the amount of light the plant receives. If you have two identical plants, one on a 24/0 schedule, and the other on an 18/6 schedule, you'll find that the one on the 18/6 schedule will grow at a rate approximately 30% slower than the one on the 24/0 schedule. Again, I know that not everyone agrees with this, but I've seen proof and my assertations are backed up by uber-ganja-grower Ed Rosenthal. Here is a direct quote from Ed on this exact topic:

"The plants photosynthesize as long as the light is on. As long as the light is on, they are using it and continue to grow. Cannabis does not need a dark period during the vegetative growth cycle. Cutting the light period to 18 hours rather than letting it run continuously is just wasting time and space."

I hope this helps you :-D

hey rolla, thanks for the input. i was wondering about the light break, not for resting but from being burnt. i left them at 24/0 but i moved them further away from the light. the tops leaves are pretty crispy, the rest of the plants looks great. not going to worry to much now, another lesson learned.

i was planning on putting them on 12/12 light cycle when they got a month old. i don't think they'll be over 6" tall at a month.

i've got them about 24" below a 400mh the temps have been staying in the mid 70's, humidity in the 50% range. lights are on 24/0. i've been feeding them a 10-10-10 fert mixed at quarter strength. i did have a small fight with gnats. neem oil is the cure.

24/0 light cycle...hmm ok maybe it increases growth rate by 30% yea but it also jacks your electric higher too, shit mine was high enough with the 18/6 with my 600W hps. your plants look pretty good tho man, your either burning them with nutes or with the light by the looks of the yellowing and crinkly look on some of your leaves. i didnt start nutes til like 5 weeks in, i cant memeber for sure or where your at right now but your bringing back memories, im actually just finishing off some papaya, my first grow in fact, they are hanging to dry right now. if you look up my thread i have a bunch of pics i took a couple nights ago just before harvest. and if you search for pics under papaya you will find even more pics of mine of my papaya in its earlier stages. the thread is called "papaya anyone?" i suggest you check it out because thats what you have to look forward to.. keep up the good work man

hey folks, happy friday!!!!!

my plants aren't looking well, let me put out some facts then you all can give me your thoughts.

the closet temps have been staying in the mid 70's. a 400mh staying lit up 24/7. humidity stays around 50%. have been getting watered with distilled water ph'd 6.5. my first feeding was last week with fox farms grow big mixed at quarter strength. last night i watered with nothing but 2 teaspoons of molasses. the run off water was a perfect 6.7. i've been fighting with gnats. i've been treating since monday with neem oil, olny killed a couple of the little bastards tonight. getting alot better. i don't see any infestation on the leaves.they are in mg organic soil with no nutes added.

the syptoms are the leaves are getting like a blister look to them. then a day or so later they get dry and brittle on the edges. i stayed up late last night trying to find what it was and i'm still not sure.

I will keep a eye on this seeing how we are growing almost exactly the same. I have a 400w mh with papaya seeds in MG soil with distilled water. My closet stays at about 73-74. I hope someone can help you out and give a little advice to you (and me). Maybe you could put a thread up in the problems section to make it more aware to people that can help. Just a thought.

hey douche nozzle, i read yours and volcomriders threads last night. i'm thinking i nute burned them. i'm going to continue feeding with straight water for another week or so.
