No nutrients

So I just wanted to grow without any nutrients at all. I'm 3 weeks into flowering and haven't noticed any swelling of the flower yet. I know they won't be huge or anything, but is it normal for no buds to be forming yet?IMG_20210928_142617.jpg

I'm guessing you meant grow with "no added nutrients". Once it depletes what's in the soil, it will die. Best case it falls over dead. Worst case, it dies slowly, picks up pests and disease along the way, and spreads it to your other plants.

This was just a experiment I wanted to try. I have a few grows down. Just wanted to see the results of just ph'ed water. I know my results won't be spectacular or anything. I have 2 going with nutes.
Why do you pH water in soil? Soil grows don’t need to be pHed. I grow all the time with no bottled nutes. Most soils have 3 months worth of nutrients. So if you transplant at the right times you won’t have to worry about nutrient additions ever unless you are running a long flower sativa. But it has to be a strain that takes longer than 14 weeks to flower to actually need soil amendments. My current grow is just distilled water, soil, and a light. I transplant from a 2 gal to a 4 gal pot 2 weeks before I flip and I don’t ever need to add anything from bottles.

Try growing a plant in a DWC hydro system with just RO water if you want to do a more accurate experiment.
How is that an accurate experiment or even comparable experiment? Soils are rich in nutrients, hydro relies entirely on nutrient additions. This is apples and oranges in comparison. Especially when there are people who get so into organic gardening that they do no til living soils with amazing success all the time.

My question is did you transplant your plant? How big was the original container and how big is your current one? If you are in the original pot and did not transplant well you are most likely near the point of soil depletion in the coming weeks 6-8 weeks of veg and then 3 weeks of flower. But if you transplanted correctly you can finish without issues. And this is all assuming you are using a 3 gallon or smaller pot. If you use a 5-7 gallon pot to start with you don’t have to transplant and you don’t have to worry about soil amendments. There are lots of recipes to success, what is your goal?

Well he said he wants to see how long a plant can survive with NO food.

A plant needs nutrients.. its clearly had nutrients in the soil. I dont really understand this.. its like trying to raise a new born and not feed it.. it will just die. A plant needs to nutrients to survive.. im confused. Are you just saying, you want to see what happens if you grow it in some soil (with nutes) and not feed anything additional? I dont get it man.. like.. why? All you are determining is how many nutee are in the medium.. once your plant starts dying, you can say.. welp.. guess she used up all the nutes! Are you just lazy? How long well she last in some soil.. hmmm .. i dont get it lol

So I grow all the time without having to add nutrients to my soil. Nothing from a bottle. Some people don’t want to waste money every grow on things that they don’t need. Some people enjoy buying $100+ worth of nutrients and deem they are “required” to grow weed. At opposite extremities you have people that do no till organic gardening in a living soil and at the other end you have people that grow hydroponically and have to add every nutrient into their water. Where you fall on this spectrum of solutions is entirely up to you. But with proper transplant and a good soil composition you don’t need to do anything but water your plants. It’s very possible to do. Whether you want to go down that path is us up to you, but it seem like the original poster is trying to see if they can do it themself. For what reason I have no idea. But soils have nutrients for 3 months typically when you buy them from a bag. You could also compost and make your own soil. To each their own, but I guess the best question is what are you trying to accomplish and why?

Right - thats not growing without nutes. So no bottled nutes

the original poster mentioned that they have two with added nutrients one without. It was asked a couple times if you mean no added nutrients and the original poster has yet to elaborate. So I made the assumption since it is green and flowering and lasted this long that they are growing in soil and trying to see how far they can push the soil. And was just trying to add a couple suggestions on how you could do that if it was your goal. And really the biggest variable to success is container size.

but at the same time I wonder why so many people PH their water in soil. Especially when there are natural solutions to correct a PH issue that are much more beneficial to the plant with mycorrhizal fungi being the best. Especially if you are trying to achieve a solution without using anything from a bottle.
