how to open a cross-threaded grinder?

I know I’m 10 years late to the discussion but I was in the same position,Used a thin butter knife to pry it apart ,Start at a section where I there’s space and move towards crossed area. Hope this helps someone!

Last night I opened up my old grinder’s kief compartment for the first time in years, and it was almost completely full. I gave half of it to my son and already smoked a bunch, and I still have all of this left. I should have weighed it and taken a picture beforehand.
