WTF is up with my tolerance? Anyone else experience this? Or maybe you're an expert caregiver that can advise?

Hey, I recently wanted to give my body a break from vaporizing. I got quite the habit being a grower, hitting the thing every half hour all day and night. I would have to add oil to the bowls at night because by that time the buds were seeming weak. The lavender I grow is regularly close to 30% THC and 1% CBD. So, it's not like I'm using weak dispensary weed.

Anyway, I had read that the tolerance from smoking or vaping is different from the tolerance from edibles. So, I thought it would be nice to save some stuff and give my lungs a break by trying this rick simpson oil thing. I've already been making the oil for vaping for years.

But, holy shit do I have some kind of crazy tolerance or what? I have to eat about 300mg to even feel it. And, after eating huge doses and nearly shitting my pants a couple of times I learned that the body can't process that much at once. So, now I have to eat 150mg followed by 150mg in about an hour. When I do that I'm only high enough to not want to vape for about 2 hours! That's freakin' it! Then I have to do it all again. Ugh and wait for it to kick in.

I'm taking about a gram and a half a day now.

And, OMG the dispensaries sell stuff in like 10-25mg doses? What is going on? Am I some kind of freak? Well, obviously, but I mean with this crazy tolerance.

It's working, btw. My lungs are happier. Just don't know how long I can keep this up before going through my crops faster than I can grow them.

Try growing a cultivar that doesn’t have a cap on the high like an original OG kush. It’s not all about the THC. I have statins that test at 14% that get me higher than my 30% cultivars.

I don't have a very high tolerance when smoking, but I can consume massive doses without feeling it. Then it's like trying to land a jet on a very short runway of being enjoyable without overshooting into a fiery forest of anxiety.

I dont even get a buzz on edibles. Ive made them for years ( since the 70s), and only use the best buds, and not leaf.
Some of the cookies Ive made will smash people with 1 cookie. like not be able to drive, and can hardly walk.
Ill use a quarter pound of buds, and 1 pound of butter.
I can eat 5 or more cookies, and all I get is Diarrhea and a stomach ache for the next 24 hours.

it seems to me....(no science here) ... that by "switching it up" i can stay medicated without going thru mass quantities or have to live with and feed a thru-the-roof tolerance.

i switch strains AND i switch methods of intake.

my daily driver is the solo 2....i can accurately measure my medicine usage and have found since i quit smoking and went to a vaporizer full time...i can stay medicated on a gram or less a day (of flower). i do keep about 15-20 varieties on hand to switch-it-up (strain-wise) each day. i can dab or hit an e-pen if i like, but honestly, i get better medication when in vaporize flower than i do when i change up a and jump in with concentrates. go figure? concentrates last a long time around here. i will also smoke a little hash once a week or so.

i think flower works better for me because the correct flowesr seems to provide me with a full-spectrum buzz....not so with the concentrates i have tried. unfortunately, another downside to concentrate vaping (for me), it really roachs my throat. for this reason, i try to minimize that medication method.

i can do edibles like rso just fine. since may, i have had both my knees replaced. rso worked terrific in dulling my pain pre & post surgery. it was fantastic in reducing my need for oxi. all the way thru physical therapy. to illustrate how high my tolerance is, i started with 2-3 rice gain sized drips of rso in late april. now, today, i do 1/2 gram mid-morning and a 1/2 gram mid-evening. for me, today. after both surgeries, i medicate with gram of rso/day with no noticeable loss of motor skills. 1.5 grams would probably be what i would prescribe myself today as a result of my tolerance growth since april. as a rule, i do not generally use edibles in my daily med line-up....but during special times or during painful surgeries. i also like rso to just hang with, but it is not a daily for me. now that the surgeries are in the past, i expect i will do some rso very infrequently.

for me, another terrific benefit to flower vaping, i not only use my flower to stay medicated during the day, i also use the exact same flower (as ABV) in a couple gel-caps about 2hrs before bedtime. when i lay my head down, i am out for the night. AND i sleep solid too!

I just did a bunch of research and experiments and came to the conclusion that terpenes are just the latest hype in the industry. They seem to change the flavor and that's about it. The main medicine in the plant seems to be the THC and CBD according to science and personal experience.

But, I'm intrigued by this idea of a plant without a "cap" on the high. Never heard of such a thing. How would that work? And, how would THC just be a catalyst?

My friend. If your learning this from “reading”. Your far from figuring it out. 10-15 years ago strains were hitting 30% but uncommon. Even here in SoCal. On the average. Top shelf strains would be low 20s but higher in other beneficial cannabinoids. Certain terpenes that react differently with different level of THC and CBD. Sleep, mind focus, energized. All involved with terpenes percentages mixed with levels of THC. And yes. Your correct. Terpenes alter aroma. You remember kush in early 2000s. 1 gram in your backpack smelled up the entire gas station. And it was just that. Fire ass weed. Terpenes

at the end of the day. Follow your nose.

It's also the habitual aspect. Your body just wants to take a rip every half hour or so, because you like how it tastes, how it smells, you love the process of breaking it up, etc etc etc. And, with habitual comes the "mental" aspect where you're probably higher than you think you actually are, but your body and mind are tellin you "take another rip, you love it!"

There's so much more to it than just tolerance.

I can agree more with the thought that it's more than just thc and cbd. if that's all it was, then Marinol or synthetic thc would have the same effect.. if you do more research those are 2 of like 200 compounds that we have isolated. there has been almost zero real scientific research done in the last 100 years bc of prohibition.

for me personally the limonene citrus type terps have a great anti anxiety and motivating effect for me. Orange/Tangie more so than lemon, but even across strains I have felt the same relief.

I think there's something else not many ppl mention. Different people medicate for different reasons.

For me personally I am microdosing all day long to keep myself on an even keel. I smoke so that I can manage my anxiety, and keep my OCD in check. For me and I am sure many others , herb us what we use to feel "normal". In general I gravitate to sativa or sativa leaning hybrids.

For many people who are seeking pain relief whether physical or mental I feel like there is a gravitation to more narcotic "couchlock" strains. No judgements, I can fully understand as my son has a chronic illness and I don't know where we would be without strong indicas. But also I feel many rec users are looking for something to get them wasted / fucked up. Don't get me wrong I love a knockout once in a while as well, I just can't smoke those strains during the day or I get nothing done, and/or it makes me immobile which in turn triggers my anxiety even worse. but in general it seems to be my friends who smoke a lot of indicas that wind up having tolerance issues and have to keep upping their intake.

I know this is opposite of many ppls brain chemistry, maybe I'm a little adhd too I dunno. Just thought worth discussing.

I get high af on low terp concentrates. I also get high af if I eat enough terpless rso. So I don't know about that argument.

I have the same issue only I smoke flower instead of vape. I like to smoke I smoke constantly cigarette then bowl then cigarette then bowl most of the day. It’s just a tolerance thing. I can’t get high off edibles, although good rso over a 100 mg will get me buzz but I don’t like it.

Terps are important just like thc levels are important, you need both. There is more to a buzz than thc though smoke distillate and you can tell the buzz is not at all the same to the point I don’t like distillate at all nor do I like very many concentrates as the buzz is just different.

I do feel like some strains have higher ceilings than others, but like said above everyone’s body chemistry is different. Being a grower helps you can hunt the strains that are like that for you. I find couch lock strains don’t do that for me it takes a good hybrid that leans toward the sativa side but still has a good relaxing quality.

I wasn't saying it's only the terps. or that you wouldn't get high off thc alone.

question too, do you see a difference between high and stoned? for me, being high is when I'm in my flow state and am happy and productive. stoned is more mellow and/or immobile / blank out life for a bit. not trying to argue just know different ppl have different experiences and/or needs and curious if I'm the only one who thinks about it this way.
