Cloning root temp?

Hey everyone! I got some clones I recently took and have to keep them in the basement. Currently the temp of the basement is 68-70. I do have a heating mat. When i take temps of the root cube with my ir temp gun its around 70 also. I’ve noticed not a lot of condensation on the dome. I don’t belive its heating up like it should. Usually my clone tray sits in the veg room that 80F+ Without thr heating mat. Also I’m using a t5 fixture with one bulb that is 54 watts and more bulbs can be added if that doesn’t seem like a lot of light.
The clones look alright but not lush like they did when I took them on Saturday. I can tell some leaves might turn yellow and the most of them are drooping.

70's a bit too low for cloning, Temps should be low to mid 80's ... humidity in the high 80's to low 90's range. Rooting takes a long time if the environment is too cool.

So are you using the heat mat now? Or you have one at the ready in the event that someone like me recommends you use it?

Best tip: stop wetting the leaves. It will detract nitrogen from the leaves and makes them turn yellow. Leaves shouldn't be wet all the time, just keeping the dome on is sufficient enough.

Don't place the dome directly on the heatmat but lay down something like a couple of felt-markers to keep it elevated like 1-2 cm off the ground.

i keep my clones wet wiith no problems, they root in a misting dome and stay wet the whole time there in there
they take 10 days to clone

Good point. 24 x 7 on the heat mat can make it too warm inside. Felt markers ... or a bar towel ... between the tray and heat mat will help. Putting the heat mat on a timer - 2 hours on then 1 hour off - can also help.

If you use a heat mat, just dial in your setup with a temperature probe or gun before adding your clones. Those mats have wack quality control. 80 deg is perfect for germination and cloning both, they will root much faster at 80 than 70 and so you'll end up with greener, prettier clones.

Ya an IR temp gun is a must, those mats can get out of control pretty quick.

I have a heating mat under them now. I use a towel to separate the bottom of the tray and heating mat. Since I folded the towel i had the mat pretty under about 3 layers of the towel. This morning I put it closer to the tray. Last time i took a temperature the middle cubes were close to 78F.
