i hate this bs peat can be used and done sustainably i prefer it in my mixes i wish people would do things correctly instead of the cheapest way possible like they do just now u cant say shipping fucktons of coco coir as a substitute as environmentally sound replacement i think banning it outrights nutsIt's also a finite resource.
Coco uses the hell out of water. Hope not im from there id be pissed without my whisky bad enough they fucking with our grow mixes lolIs Scotch on the list of peat based products I shouldn't use?
I hope not either. I just bought some Laphroaig for the holidays!!Hope not im from there id be pissed without my whisky bad enough they fucking with our grow mixes lol
Coconuts float. Should just haul em over here like that lolAll sales, AFAIK. It will no longer be available to buy. A lot of UK outlets are already phasing it out. I went to my local Wickes and they have already got peat free only. I notice that Westland are now selling Jack's Magic at 150L for £10, when it's gone it's gone. At that price I was tempted to stock up, it makes no sense to let the already dug stuff go to waste.
Coco is as bad as peat, as it is all imported.
Most of the soils ive bought already have perlite and peat added. Everything leaves some kind of footprint anywayOkay. Just wondering. In case other readers don't know perlite is a manufactured product using a lot of energy.
Exactly. Including the energy needed to pump water for coco growers. Most of the soils ive bought already have perlite and peat added. Everything leaves some kind of footprint anyway
Just recycle your soil. I've been using my soil for over 3 years now.Coconuts float. Should just haul em over here like that lol
I order my peat online so not seen it disappear from shops. Looking into recycling my peat as it seems a waste to only use it once.
sounds like we need a Peat Support group here at RIUHello my names Herb and I use peat, daily
And I can’t change
I am using Pro Mix, Sunshine 4 and a small bag of Miracle Gro Organic that some was used in 2016. I dump it outside. It's rained on and snow covers it for months. I add new medium annually because peat does degrade easily. But I can make a new bale of either last a season by mixing. I don't add lime but do use a load of Xtreme Gardening Mykos WP and Recharge.Just recycle your soil. I've been using my soil for over 3 years now.
Finally someone said it!Coco uses the hell out of water. Period.
I live in a dry cabin in deep Interior Alaska. I haul every drop of water I use. Outhouse before anyone asks. Dry.Finally someone said it!
While i sympathize and yet envy ur individual choices, the sidestepping of the water/coco thing is what was bothering me...some people think peat is more important than water?...umm, i should go nowI live in a dry cabin in deep Interior Alaska. It's 45 miles to Fairbanks. I have to use water stations like thousands of others here. At -30 sometimes if you need water.
The thought of pouring volumes of water through something every day strikes this old desert rat as nuts. Just go hydro. Simple DWC will give you the largest plant possible in a short period of time.
