Anyone watching the Ahmaud Arbery murder trial?

Ive been watching the trial and the prosecution couldn’t have been more effective. Based on the instructions to the jury, I can’t see how they could possibly be found innocent.

The dimwit might get some kind of reduced sentence.

If nothing else these cases hopefully enlighten some un-enlightened to the fact the gun laws in the states are in dire need of reform. Carrying a gun for the purpose of self defence seems kind of counter productive in all but a minuscule minority of situations. Mostly it seems to lead to senseless death. MAGA :(.

Does a jury have to be locals to the area where trial is or can jurors be from all over the country and be paid for living expenses while working on the decision?
not a lawyer I am. my understanding is that juries are pooled from within the court's jurisdiction. Sometimes a trial is moved to a different jurisdiction if the judge finds it impossible to empanel impartial jurors in his district.

But, no, jurors can't travel from one state to serve on a jury in another state. They also don't pay much. It's rare for a jurors to stay in paid for hotels but sometimes the do.

I've served a couple of times on a jury. I won't any more because you have to swear you'll follow the judge's instructions. On one trial, the word "intent" was important and the judge's definition, while probably correct according to his interpretation of law didn't match my sense of the word. If I hadn't sworn that oath I don't think I would have joined in the guilty verdict. That still bothers me. Never again.

are you kidding? Gun nut white terrorists are jumping for joy over these successes. Free speech is now secondary to the right to carry a gun. Men* in military style gear will show up at every BLM rally from now on, just looking for their chances. The Jan 6 types. It's a chilling thought.

I see no chance to change the laws right now. We'll just have to keep on fighting and I'm so glad Biden is prez.,

Your post got me to wondering where public sentiment has been recently.

In a Pew poll, only 48% of those polled thought gun violence was a problem in the US. 53% favored stricter gun laws. So, it aint going to change. Not now. If trends continue maybe in another 10 years (45,000 more dead) we might have enough demographic change to have a chance at ending this.

Yes your right. It was more wishful thinking I guess :(. It’s amazing we are separated by a thin invisible line yet our thought processes are so different :(. Carrying a rifle or any firearm in public here is ludicrous yet across that line people will fight to the death to have that right. Just so weird to me the different idealisms.

That place is crazy. Saw something for a similar place in New Mexico, just old folks getting wild, drinking, spreading stds, racing golf carts.

I think I want to be elderly soon!

I do think these three will go to jail. Seems way less ambiguous, prosecution is much more competent, judge isn't an obvious trumptard, etc.

I find this case way more disgusting and bothersome than Rittenhouse. The bumpkins chased that man down and murdered him. Rittenhouse was more murky, hope the left learns to just shoot first, kind of see it as losing a duel.
as much as i hate Social Media it is highlighting and revealing just who we are at breakneck speed.

the gun brings security on it's most basic level- what are they frightened of?

Australia gave up their guns. Look at how different their government treated their people during Covid vs the USA.

You can't force millions of Americans with guns to stay in their houses. My county never enforced lockdowns.

I’d say the Australia government treated their people pretty good.

USA covid deaths so far = 770,204
Australia covid deaths so far = 1,973

Good question.

How about when people are too fucking stupid and selfish to make minor sacrifices for the common good?
What if Donald trump was president deciding what had to be done to you for the "common good"?

More people have suffered and been killed for the "greater good". Collectivism always ends up with millions dead.
