Does the ammo have to be locked up as well?

I have a display of vintage ammo that can be (but isn't presently) hung on a wall
It has to be locked if stored with gun so a locker but if not it has to away from the gun in a separate room. It’s kind of confusing :(. I hope they never come looking at my collection I’m probably not following the letter of the law

Bingo.
I would like the US to have similar regulations. The “police exemption” gets my goat.
I’m too high and lazy to look but I wonder what the handgun rules are in all of those countries? To unarm the police in the states would be impossible at this point IMO. But I guess we can all dream. Canada has a fully armed police force which is way overkill IMO but I’m sure that disarming them is also a pipe dream. Honestly I don’t think a lot will change in our lifetime. Fuck, people are up in arms (lol) about a fucking lock they may or may not decide to use :(. I am biased when it comes to hand guns as we have never been able to purchase them without special licensing, strict enforcement, and extensive training, and I’m glad :(.

Britain and Japan both have an unarmed police force. I respect that.

With 120.5 civilian-owned firearms per 100 people, the United States has the highest rate of civilian gun ownership in the world—nearly double that of the second-place country, in fact. Civilians owned an estimated 393,347,000 total firearms in the United States in 2017 (measured against a 2017 population of 326,474,000).

We are the only country that uses guns as a pacifier

People take a dim view of what may or may not be the thin end of the next wedge. How correct they are (shrug)

You just eliminated assault rifles, that would be a significant game changer here in Dodge City.

Some do, but I don’t think their right, only based on feels. I would be first in line to vote to ban all handgun purchases and possession here, I own around 25ish guns. Just seems right (shrug)

I personally think the presence of our second amendment makes a difference. What that difference is remains to be fought by our highest court. I really do not know.

Oh I think it makes a world of difference. It’s the hill many seem to have picked to die on.

What is an assault rifle? Serious question as I have a hard time with that label, does it stop being an assault rifle if a 6 shot capacity?
An assault rifle is a carbine-length weapon with a control that allows the operator to select. “safe, single shot, full auto”, and generally chambered for a cartridge of intermediate power.
