Defoliation questions

New leaves grow back. They are smaller and block less light. Bud sites have time to catch up while the plants are growing the leaves back. Air flow and all of that as well. None of it's proven to my knowledge, but a lot of growers swear by it. It's not that crazy when you think beyond the surface level.
10 small new leaves have way more photosyntheric surface area then 1 old useless leaf that actually take more energy for the plant to keep alive then is actually photysthezing...this has been gone pver extensively in another thread...

Do what works... if defol doesnt work for you, dont do it

Obvously some, mtn growers cant do much but im sure OP will figure out what wokls for them

One thing I've been wondering is if your plant is showing nitrogen toxicity, would defoliating the plant help or hurt or neither?

thanks for proving my point. then why bother cutting them off?
I remove selected leaves as it slow the growth of that shoot, you can almost keep your canopy level by doing this if and slowing the vertical growth makes the bud grow thicker in flower.

Plants with less shoots will grow taller and thicker, plants will more shoots will grow short and thinner, train the plants to grow the way you want them to look.

The plant is storing excess food in the old large fan leaves(buffer zone) so removing them will damage the plants health, but you don't need to over feed your plants

What?

"The photosynthetic potential exceeds the requirement of the sink as a whole plant. The surplus of photosynthates of young, upper leaves is considered to depress the photosynthetic activity of old, lower leaves. This is a conceivable reason for the rapid decline of photosynthetic activity of a leaf with age."
