Bad light switch

I couldn't figure out which forum to post in....

I've got an LED fixture that has a bad on/off switch. This light will always be connected to a timer so to make it easy,

I'm thinking about removing the protective housing > removing the switch and hard-wiring the light to always on. It should be easy.

Any reason why this is a bad idea?

Yes, that should be fine.
Just make sure that the timer cuts the line circuit with voltage, not the neutral wire.

Please rephrase?

More specifically I'll cut off the switch leaving bare wires > I'll twist the two wires together so the switch is always on > cover the now new switch hole with tape.

Good plan?

What I'm saying is to make sure that the leg being switched by the timer is not the neutral wire.
If you get those reversed, the circuit will always be live, and while the lamp will operate it can pose a shock hazard if you open it up and assume the circuit is open.

The light wasn't firing so I'd jiggle the cord at the fixture or flip the switch on/off a couple of times and the light would fire.

Today the fixture didn't fire. I inspected the fixture closely and gently tapped all around the switch area until tapping right on the switch. At that point the light came on. So I really think the switch is bad.

What I plan on doing is popping the switch out and tying the wires that go to that switch together into permanent on.

Try operating the switch a couple times and remove, then reconnect the power cord. No warranty?

Long story short I bought light from AMZN. Light looked used. AMZN refunded and said 'keep the light'. No warranty.

The light was working fine using just the timer. The other day I was checking on the plants and the light wasn't on. So I inspected carefully. The plants deserve stable lighting cycles.
