Mesh to prevent bugs from duct/exhaust

Want to prevent bugs/birds from getting to my inline fine exhaust & carbon filter. What type of mesh/solution do you use?

Fan discharges 24/7 so not an issue. Even if a bird did it wouldnt hang out long

mine stops running at night when temp drops below 79, im more worried about tiny insects/gnats gunking up my inline i guess than birds

You should be more worried of humidity spikes at lights out.

1/4" metal hardware cloth is probably what I would use (for birds/mice), but I don't know that they sell less than a roll anywhere.

Or maybe put a vent flap\backdraft damper on there. Probably the best way to go. Add cloth too.

Could use a bit of window screen or pantyhose. Depending on your fan it might not be worth bothering. I know ain’t no bugs flying through my 8in duct with an 800cfm fan blowing out it. Be one strong motherfucking bug if it could.

You should be more worried of humidity spikes at lights out.

This, my shit jumps to 80 when my lights go out even with the fan running(I have like 90 gallons of soil in my grow) . Bout to hookup the dehumidifier and flip the bigguns to flower and move 5 vegging plants, 2 autos and 5 seedlings into a veg tent, the move alone should make a difference.

I bought iirc 175 micron mesh from ebay and got some filters sewn up with a draw string on them.

Until now I've had thrips once which arrived on clones.

I just filter my intake air through the highest rated 1" thick furnace filters I can afford off the shelf. Ones that filter pollen, dander, mold, spores, etc.

Build a box, or even cut a hole in a plastic tote lid, and hookup a flange for ducting. Tent or grow room.. Then tape a new filter on every 3-4 months. It will look so grimey, and you'll be glad it isn't stuck to the plants instead.

Unfiltered cannabis is pretty nasty. There is so much DNA stuck to most homegrown buds. From pubic hairs to skin flakes (rub your leg or shake your sock in the sun).. Filtering the incoming air helps out dramatically.

I put 20 inch box fans with 20x20" furnace filters taped on all around my house, and hardly have to dust anymore.
