What is the secret?

A lot of growers get stuck on a plateau, where they are successfully pulling in harvests grow after grow, but they never push themselves to get their environment on point, or maybe they stick with the first nutrient line they use, and don't get deeper into nutrient ratios and EC. You see this all over the country in dispo weed-perfectly adequate weed, but not grown optimally, maybe harvested too early or not dried/cured optimally. You see a lot of awesome pics on sites like this because the people who want to push themselves to grow the best possible herb congregate here. I would find some grow diaries that have pics of the type of primo buds you are interested in and just study as many as you can and look at whatever details they provide in terms of environment, nutrients, feeding/watering techniques, media, etc and compare that to what you usually do, and it might give you some ideas to work on for your next grow. Also, see what beans these people are popping, and get some...that way you'll know if your buds don't turn out like theirs, it's not down to the seeds you bought, rather, your cultivation skills. Good luck OP!

okay, so at least two people on this thread thus far have mentioned genetics. depending on semantics, and whether you wanna consider 'strain' as genetics, three people have mentioned the word. I wanna talk about that

so when people told me that I wouldn't get the plant that was photographed, they said it was because that plant was the seed banks 'prized' pheno.

I wanted the purple, but it's got nice sparklies too. beautiful plant. looks like fuzzy peach, I wanna eat it. but the strain is called 'BC Kush' and it's genetics are something called BC Kush IBL. I looked it up, and found this article about what IBL is https://www.maximumyield.com/definition/4486/true-breed-ibl-cannabis

if that article is true, and my seed bank wasn't lying, I SHOULD be able to damn near replicate what's in the photo, right? if I grow it right I WILL get that plant in the photo? in all of its fuzzy warm splendor, it will be mine, yes?

Genetics don't work that way. You could pop 1000000 of those seeds, but you'll never get the exact plant in the pic, but you could get real close.

Just find the right pheno first, grow it decently and take a nice photo of it. What else could it be?

(Well actually if it's a commercial photo they might have done some tricks when taking the photo. Look up some food photography tricks... Like making a roast look good by pouring motor oil on it... Photography is all lies)

I don'tunderstand, the article states and I quote: "A true breed strain (also known as IBL) of cannabis will produce stable, consistent offspring off a single dominant phenotype. Normally, true breed strains are found among landraces and some traditional cultivars."

Does that not mean I'll get exactly the way the parent plant was engineered? All the 'traits?' Are the purple leaves and sparklies not traits of the plant?

Which breeder is that from? There are some great IBLs out there, but just because a breeder says their plant is an IBL doesn't mean it's true. Also, most IBLs are older strains and aren't as frosty as what you are looking for. My next grow will be with Mr. Greengenes Cherry Bomb IBL and I don't expect them to be frost monsters or high THC, just a great Maui Wowee high. Based on the 4x4 grow in my sig, I would say a good bet for you would be to check out Solfire Gardens-the NSFSHEEESH strain I have going now is a great example of a frosty GSC strain, but remember, frost doesn't equal potency and it doesn't equal terpenes either. Frost is just good for pics and I'd take a tasty old Hawaiian IBL over a frost monster GSC with no flavor any day of the week.

This is the plant I was talking about, and the place I purchased twelve seeds from. https://bcbuddepot.com/marijuana-seeds/bc-bud-depot/bc-kush-copy/

I'm still having a hard time fathoming this. Every weed I've gotten, has been ass. Off the street? Ass weed. In the store? Ass weed. None of it sparkles, it's all junk. Why do so many growers fail if it's so easy?
They’re selling you stuff after a heavy handed trim and dry sift bro. And a lot of growers are just kinda dipshits so they fail because they’re stupid and don’t follow basic instructions or because they want to do things their own way from the start or cut corners on the most important shit, like environmental optimization.

Growing from seed guarantees similar traits to the parents, grandparents etc. like anything’s offspring is different from they’re parents. Plants are living things. If you want exact copies you need a clone and to replicate the clones mom’s environment to bring out the same phenotypical traits. It’s really not that complicated a concept if you want the same plant you have too start from it.

Imo genetics environment + proper nutrients that aint over done and keep your rh low in bloom run it at a slightly lower temp if possible too theres really nothing else to it also dont harvest before its ready ready it aint hard man ive never grew shit that looks like brickweed or anything that was low on frost even my first grow long long ago was decent resin production wise also i go from seed every time as well aint into clones

For instance I have brown hair and green eyes, my sons mom has brown hair and brown eyes, her mom has blond hair and blue eyes. Her dad has a learning disability

Our son has blond hair and hazel eyes and a learning disability. Traits just pass on that way genotype comes from more than just the parents it’s every generation before them too.

Another example my cats had a litter of kittens recently, they all look completely different from each other and from their parents because cats have a lot of genetic diversity built in
