Odor fluctuation and harvest

Bear with me because this might just be my stoned brain. I've found that in flower there are days when the plant's odors are stronger. Say the plant is ready to harvest: would it be beneficial to chop the plant on a day where it stinks more or would it make no difference?

If it stinks more it's too late, you just lost a bunch of phenolics and you ain't getting em back. (Skips rock on lake)

IMO weed smell is the particular profile expressing - terps. Even during veg growing - some strains begin to stink. Night time ( lights out ) plants begin respiration and that releases smell.

To me it doesn’t indicate maturity to chop but of that particular strains profile…

I don't think it's a measure of maturity, either. What I mean is say a theoretical plant is indeed ready to chop, could chopping on a day when its smellier help retain that smell? It's just a thought based on observation.

I believe, when it comes down to it, you're smelling the terps "disappearing" so based on this, you should probably chop on a LESS smelly day because less terps are dissipating, meaning, more terpenes may be within the final product

I don't think it's a measure of maturity, either. What I mean is say a theoretical plant is indeed ready to chop, could chopping on a day when its smellier help retain that smell? It's just a thought based on observation.

Smell can begin to decay after harvest and storage too. There was some study somewhere that detailed weed profiles ( 1 year and 1 month respectively) .
And there was a marked decrease from “ fresh “ harvested and dried over cured long term. Some strains are pretty low odor too - and have nose smell deep in bud. Terps are volatile and even excess heat can make them gas off some smell.

I go by flower structure over scoping , i let them harden off regardless of leaf triches. There are other indications that can make one pull a plant like sugar leaf necrosis ( which is bad ) and that alone puts a brake on fulfilling a proper grow time. Terp expression is also considered a plant response in nature to help repel predators/ fungus and of course pollination.

I also keep ready to cut plants ( pre trimmed ) in a dark tent only as a way to cut ON MY TIME. Not for any BroScience reason - noticed plants stink more. This way i can pull a plant whenever i want PLUS its already drying “ in pot “.

I have a couple photos just going into week 9 from pistils (11 from 12/12) They still have 2-3 maybe more weeks to go, but I am determined to not cut too early. I ruined my whole first grow cutting at 8 weeks and I'll never do it again. I appreciate people like you who advocate correct harvest time.

Take everyone’s opinion with open mind … there technically isn’t a proper set in stone way. Every grower will judge their own gardens , i just look for other indications over just scoping triches.

Im more than certain you will do just fine .
And if you ever goof on something just chalk it up to experience…. Both good and bad.
