Getting ready? Skywalker OG auto

First indoor grow (harvested a purple punch plant a few days ago). This is Skywalker OG auto in day 73. Most trikes look cloudy to me, almost none amber. Thoughts? The whole plant pic is a day or two old. The closeups are very recent. Thanks. First post.

Well, still too much white pistil and not much amber…waiting a little more.

Pretty new to this, but I was surprised how quickly the last plant went almost all brown pistils. Autos. Significantly more pistils turning a day later.

This is day 75. You really think they’ll take up to two weeks more? Turing fast. I sort of like a heady rather than couch’s high, which might also point to taking this one a little earlier? I guess I’m asking, if other can weigh in looking at the two pics 24 hrs apart. Eager, as you can tell.

If you like heady highs get strains the produce a heady high, don't harvest early, that's just silly.

Thanks for the input. I thought it was pretty well established conventional wisdom that within the window, different harvest points produce different effects. I don’t want to go to sleep, that’s all. Been getting high for over 40 years, just pretty new to growing. I generally prefer a heady indica than a sleepy one, though I prefer indicas. I believe harvest point matters, as well as genetics.

My real question to folks is whether it’s closer to the window than my earlier pictures might have suggested. I estimate 50% of pistils have turned, more on some nugs. Today I say my first hint of amber trikes on the buds. There have been some on leaves for a few days.

Yo, man, I do appreciate the feedback. I understand your point. I don’t want to harvest too early, though probably earlier than some prefer. Just curious if the two most recent pictures really suggest two more weeks. I can wait. But I’m surprised by how fast pistils are turning compared to my first outdoor grow this summer.

One more follow up, and this is not to put into question anything said by the well informed people here. Overeager, I sent some pics to a local friend with a green thumb, as well as to a friend who has a friend in the commercial grow market that he could check with. Both responded that these flowers look well within the harvest window. Worth mentioning, as I think there are lots of approaches to choosing when to harvest that, once within range, becomes personal preference. Of course, most here know this (or maybe disagree). And I’m just learning. But worth mentioning as I wrap up my first indoor grow, cause a lot of the time there is not a singular right answer. Thankfully. Real happy with results either way.

It sounds like you just wanted someone to tell you to harvest.

Those pics show a plant that is starting to get ripe. They still have a bit to go however. The calyxes haven't begun to swell and there's a ton of white hairs still. Commercial growers probably would tell you it's in the window as they care more about flipping plants than they do about perfectly ripe weed. The branches should be bending over during the last week or two from all the weight the buds put on in the last few weeks. They will look swollen and the pistils look like they're receding into the bud as it swells. Harvesting an indica early won't give you a sativa high, it just keeps the plant from being finished properly. The sleepy high can come from a very over ripe bud but it's hard to go that far past ready if you're watching the plant. I think you would like it better with an indica hybrid that's upbeat in effect that you can grow out until it's ready.
The plant looks good for your first grow and I'd keep feeding it until it was time to chop so it stays healthy.
You can always do a staggered harvest and take some buds early and then a week later take some more and so on. Then a smoke test will tell you where your sweet spot is.

No one says you have to chop the whole thing at once. If you are really really impatient, cut off one small nug from about midway down the plant, let it dry, smoke it, and see how you like it. It takes weeks if not months of additional ripening for it to go from "normal weed high" to "sleepy high" while the plant is still alive. Nothing will change in the couple days it takes to dry one nug.

Keep in mind though, even if you like the high you get from a nug you cut today, you will like it even better if you let the rest ripen for a few more weeks. IME, early-cut weed does give a more "heady" high, but it is very short-lived and tends to be a lot more edgy than when you let it ripen properly.

Thanks for all the advice. Really appreciated. I mention forty years of getting high on whatever I could get my hands on. I’m really happy to have the personal input now. I don’t pretend to know anything about growing, which is why I asked and appreciate the advice.

You're going to fuck yourself if you try to grow from seed by a certain date. It's possible from clones to plan like that but there still needs to be some wiggle room. The plants can't read a calender, they will be done when they are done.

They are autos and I will go ahead and start them. I had thought to wait as I’m running lower humidity for the mature plant, though I’ve seen many online growers do the same - I’m sure I’ll get away with it. Need to make the space a little warmer for the winter too. Learning.
