Are opiates the only painkiller?

I put this here because i have a serious allergy to opiates and haven't been exposed to them for years?
Well i have surgery scheduled and the Dr recommended ibuprofen and Tylenol.
Well damm if the internet doesnt have any options that require a prescription i know that Michael J Pophanaol sp. From browsing the net there are no alternatives that occupy the middle ground. Seems political. Rule soboxine out.

I have had plenty of surgeries
Never was I allowed Ibuprofen before surgery it as it thins your blood
I haven't found anything that actually works for pain that is safe presurgery not even aspirin

Ask your Dr about Tramadol- it is a bit different than other opioids- it is fully synthetic.
Not as strong as Percocet but more effective than Ibuprofen. It actually works well when used with Tylenol.
Unfortunately- opioids are the only real choice.
If you’re having nerve pain- Gabapentin works well for some people.
I make very strong edibles and when used in conjunction with a little smoke it helps a lot with my pain. You are lucky to stay away from the heavy opiates and although it sucks that you may have to endure the pain after surgery it is a blessing for you.
That shit is a serious dead end where you must up the dose to get the same effect and it makes you crazy.
I had 5 ruptured disc and another that was disintegrated- gone. Fucking insurance would only let the Dr do 1 level, My pain was worse after the surgery and I had to endure 8 months of pain management until they went in and did 2 more levels. It still sucks but at least I can walk like a normal human.
Couple years later I needed a cervical fusion- it was a cake walk compared to the lumbar fusion.
Now I am sporting 16 screws in my spine, a metal plate in my neck, metal shims replaced my discs, rods and lots of other hardware in my lumbar.
Living with chronic pain is tough but I find that keeping busy and distracted helps me to deal with it. Just like opiates, the cannabis is a distraction from the pain not a cure and any vacation from it, no matter how short, is helpful to get reset.

I’ve had back issues since falling 30’ off a ladder then down a flight of stairs when I was 40 and it can really fuck up your life, the constant pain wears on you. Everyday is a struggle to get shit done but sure feels good when it’s done :). I’m lucky that I hate the effect opiates have on me so my intake was limited by me, not the doctors, they threw handfuls at me at first :(. Sounds like you have some pretty bad shit to deal with, glad your doing ok!!!

Some long shots, now that I’m done being an ass.

For straight pain like from surgery, know that NSAIDs (nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs) come in various levels of efficacy. Ibuprofen and naproxen can be had otc, but my experience with them is not encouraging.
Ketorolac is a step up. Personally the one Nsaid that did more for me than thoughts&prayers is indomethacin. Maybe your doc will let you try a few of the super unleaded prescription numbers. I haven’t had celecoxib.

For pain of a more neuropathic sort, like chronic back or trigeminal neuralgia, some other drugs have been effective off-label. Carbamazepine, baclofen, even fluoxetine have taken the edge off for some people.

A warning about tramadol. It has an unusual activity spectrum, but is still mostly an opioid. Test it for allergy if you go that route.

I was hoping that by now they would have a new class of specific painkillers. My search has turned up nothing however. All I can offer are these supporting actors.
Fwiw cannabis has never done thing one for me for pain, be it migraine or a sprung back.

Cbn in weed is a narcotic.but if you are gonna go operate people say weed makes problem when they try to put you to sleep on the table.you havw a chance of waking up

Demerol is my choice when heavy duty pain killers are needed. Morphine makes me sick as a dog and when it wears off it's worse. Puking out both ends like the worse hangover ever or a bad case of ebola.

Demerol just works. You know the pain is still there but you don't f'n care anymore. Sleep like a baby and wake up feeling great.

I used to get 30 - 50mg tabs for my bum shoulder and would last me 4 - 6 months as I only used it when the pain was really bad or once in a while take 3 for a nice trip. Then the doc got all worried about the opiod epidemic and cut me off. Said to try Cymbalta which is a horrible and addictive anti-depressant so I stick to RSO and CBD oils.

Shoulder hardly bothers me now so no biggie.

Methocarbamol isn't a narcotic. It's a central nervous system (CNS) depressant and muscle relaxant used to treat muscle spasms, tension, and pain. It may be mistaken for a narcotic due to side effects like drowsiness and dizziness, which can feel like a drug “high.”
